Sneak preview of a new Runescape update
By Steve on Feb 28, 2007 | In Mini games, Miscellaneous | 1 feedback »
Under no circumstances must Jagex be made aware of this, I have exclusive pictures of a future update that I found by accident today.
It happened while I was doing a barrows run when this glitch revealed another barrows brother, I think it could be related to the Life Tower quest, so expect a new barrows Brother to reveal himself in the next month or two.
It is not the duplicate brother that you often get in the tunnels it is a totally different brother, I have not determined his special yet but I believe it to be herblore related so expect some interesting new armour or maybe some pots.
Anyway I just like it known that I have killed the 7th different Barrows brother before anyone else.
Here is the new Barrows Brother

Surviving the wilderness
By Steve on Feb 26, 2007 | In Wilderness | 4 feedbacks »
I will be writing a post on Pking, I am not a great pker so would appreciate any comments about pking for when I do this post.
This post is how best to survive the wilderness.
The wilderness is a no mans land, there is no laws and no rules there so if you venture into the wildy there is a good chance you will be attacked and even killed, the majority of pkers are cowards and will not venture anywhere in the wildy without a clan to protect them if they get frightened, they will even attack unarmed players or even skillers because there pking skills are a bit lacking and they need to go for easy targets, having said that there are pkers with a bit of backbone that will venture out on their own and fight until the death.
There is no need to venture into the wildy so you can remain safe in the knowledge that you can not be killed.
level 3 clues are the only common reason to enter the wildy, but bare in mind you do not need to do it and you enter the wildy of your own accord and all responsibility is with you for going.
For the treasure trail you can go prepared for 3 outcomes.
1/ To run like hell and stay alive for as long as possible if you are attacked.
2/ To travel light so if you are attacked and killed you only lose items of no value
3/ Or my favourite form of action to go prepared to fight and it be a bonus if you are not attacked.
Method 1 the best way to approach is to wear your best dragon hide, if you cant afford to wear dragon hide bearing in mind that you may lose some of it just wear anything that you can afford to lose, make some leather range armour or anything with a good mage defence. or even wear nothing.
Take some energy pots super if you can afford or make them yourself, take what you need for the clue sextant chart and watch as well as the clue and a spade if needed.
Also bare in mind that you are quite likely to come across a Zamorak wizard who will slash you with a dds and poison you and use very powerful mage spells that will hit very hard unless you have a good mage defence.
Taking an anti fire breath shield is a good idea in case you stumble into a group of green dragons, also a lot of food is handy for the fight and for healing if you are pked.
Look at the world map and decide the best route to get to your destination, you can change your inventory depending on how far you are going into wildy.
If you are not going past 20 take a home teleport tab or other quick teleport and wear a ring of life, if you are going directly to levcel 50 or deeper forget any teleport it will not work so save the space for food.
Now you are prepared for your mission set of and take the most direct route walking avoiding any nasty monsters or regular pking areas, as soon as you get your spot dig or search the chest as soon as you have the casket do not open it run south or run for the lever if by ardougne as soon as you get to level 20 wildy tele, home teleport is good in case you are poisoned you can get to your house and die without losing your items, if you do tele home take off your ring of life immediately you do not want to be teleported from the safety of your home to fally or Lumbridge.
If safe to do so leave your house, bank your surplus food and open your casket.
method 2 wear nothing have your clue and co-ord stuff if required, take a dds and some food depending on level you will need this to withstand the wizard attack if it happens, if you are attacked by a pker and you can not get away drop your lest valuable items probably just food and keep the 3 main items, dds and casket or clue and another item of choice, you will wake up in fally or Lumbridge you can just change world and try again.
If you choose to fight this method will follow shortly, I need a break for today.
Runescape Pest Control Tips
By Steve on Feb 26, 2007 | In Combat, Mini games | 1 feedback »
Please note that pest control has now changed, these rules should no longer be followed as they are not accurate, I will leave this post here as a reminder of how life was.
As a follow up to to my previous Pest Control post I have spent a lot more time there, the reason being simply as your level gets higher the rewards from pest control increase.
In my quest for 99 Attack I spent 2 days getting from just past 98 to almost halfway towards 99, I had about 600k xp to get a friend asked how long to 99, I wasn't sure but I said probably 3 to 4 days.
Well guess what, the next day he logged on I had already bought the cape, how? pest control!!!
A lot of people have a few strange and untrue ideas about pest control.
1/ is a low level player better off in a world with high level players? No this is not true to get the benefit of being able to do all things in Pest Control you should be in a world with the same or similar level players.
The Reason for this is that pest control is calculated by the amount and level of the players in each game, for example a game with 24 level 126 players and a level 90 player the level 90 player would not be able to cause sufficient damage to the portal to get 50 Zeal, the only way they could get sufficient zeal is to attack the monsters..
I would prefer to be in a game with 24 level 80's who know what they are doing than a game with players with similar combat levels as myself, I know I will hit the portal constantly with the level 80's and hit loads of 0's with the higher level players even with 99 attack.
Runescape automatically pick players with a similar combat level for each game because of this, I have often been the only player on the boat and when a load of players come in I have been given priority over the following players entering and left on the boat, this is most annoying especially if I have been there a while already.
So the best plan of attack is to find a world with players of a similar combat as yours and stay there.
2/ The myth that specials cause spinners is one that raises its head occasionally, this started when PC was new and has refused to go away, it does not cause spinners! please continue to spread the rumour because it makes me laugh when a nub mentions it.
I find it funny when players use the whip special on the portal, why you would want to remove the run energy from the portal and transfer to yourself I do not know, the portal has never been seen to move by me and I imagine anyone else.
3/ If you lose a game the world is carp, unfortunately because people believe this the good game world are constantly changing, Pest Control is random and it may be that there were brawlers blocking people from the spinners causing you to lose the game, this is bad luck and the next game will be different, don't give up and change world if you lose a game.
I have often seen people on the side saying looking for 80 plus or 100 plus world, after I have won 5 games they are still there, what do they want points or a clan war.
Ok back to my tips
- You do not need to kill Spinners
I repeat you do not need to kill spinners, simply attack them once and continue to attack the portal, I take ancients to pest control and use Ice Barrage to get the attention of all the spinners in one go, they then start to attack me, I then continue to attack the portal, I would love to be able to use Ice Barrage on the nubs who keep saying kill the spinners, countless games have been lost by people killing spinners that are attacking me instead of killing the portal.
The portals are weak to certain attacks unless you are training a certain attack style it is a good idea to use their weakness, as soon as you leave the launch the purple portal to the right is weak to range, using range will damage this one quickly.
The next one around is the pink one I think this is weak to melee but I am normally barraging the spinners because no other nub will attack the m.
Then there is the yellow this one is weak to melee as well but again no one can get to the spinners because of brawlers so I end up barraging all the monsters to get to the spinners.
Then last of all the light blue one this is weak to mage, I can destroy this one on my own with Ice Barrage and also take out the spinners and other monsters past it.
As I mentioned the Yellow portal is prone to brawlers blocking and it is very difficult or impossible to get to the spinners, there is an easy way to clear the way here, get the person being attacked by the brawler to walk away letting others in to kill the spinners, why people insist on fighting the brawlers or just ignoring them and attacking the portal when spinners are healing more than they can damage I will never understand, all you need to do is walk away and let the others in, you can then come back and fight or kill the brawler.
In my last post I mentioned that portal attackers should stand in front but to the side of the portal so they can attack spinners when they show, it is a good idea to have a lower level player stood in the middle but 1 space back killing the monsters as they come out, this will queue the monsters by the portal not giving them space to mage or range the void knight and also preventing them from damaging the barricades, getting a couple of players to do this will ensure continuity if one dies.
I have been in many games where I have needed to use my Ice Barrage to win, this is not necessary if everyone took responsibility and did one roll and helped others if required.
Another habit to get into is to run to the next portal if you have destroyed one even if they are on low xp, this is because spinners can repair a portal very quickly if not stopped, I have seen a portal go from 1 xp to full xp and the game lost because of a lack of help.
Snape Grass for cash
By Steve on Feb 19, 2007 | In Herblore, Making Money on Runescape | Send feedback »
I am on a roll for money making tips, at the moment all herblore related for some reason I am not even actively training it at the moment.
Snape grass is used for prayer pots, prayer pots are the most valuable pot on the market fetching anything from 6k to 10k at current prices.
Snape grass is found at Waterbirth Island and more commonly on the hobgoblin island south of the crafting guild, the way I do it is to have my house located at Rimmington use home tele and step outside run west to the Island and pick up the loan snape grass then continue to the double spawn spot and go between the two spots collecting as they spawn.
This place gets busy so if someone else is there I let them finish then I start to pick, If someone else comes along they may not wait so my tip to get it every time is not to just keep clicking but stand on the spawn spot and click as soon as it appears, people who just keep clicking will fill up the mouse buffer and be picking up nothing even after the snape has appeared.
Once you have a full inventory tele to Fally, bank and repeat, you can if you are short of runes use fally bank by heading north using the shortcut under the wall and return the same way.
The main problem is the hobgoblins they can cull low level players so make sure you are twice their combat level before collecting.
At current prices snape grass sells for up to 600gp and finding a buyer will not be a problem, I have even seen it sell for 1k each.
A little known way of making money in Runescape
By Steve on Feb 19, 2007 | In Herblore, Making Money on Runescape | Send feedback »
I have noticed that there are a lot of sites selling information on how to make money fast, there is no need to buy the information it is always available through the free channels such as fan sites and blogs such as this, I did find some blogs telling you how to scam which is a great way to make money quickly but what good is a load of cash in an account that has been banned.
When I was a low level I spoke to a chap who was lower level than me who was wearing dragon legs and had a whip, I asked him how he got it, he told me he did it by getting blue dragon scale and selling to high level players.
Having thought about it that makes a lot of sence, you can make 1 bow string that involves picking flax and spinning it then selling for 180gp, with blue scales it involves a bit of walking, if you have good agility a very little bit of walking, running around in circles picking up blue dragon scales then tele to Fally and repeat for 600gp each.
The best way is to get a full world so all the dragons are being attacked by players and the scales re-spawn quickly.
I had forgot about this as a way of making cash fast but was reminded the other day when I wanted some to make anti fire breath pots.
Beware Ancients Ice Barrage armed and dangerous
By Steve on Feb 7, 2007 | In Mage, Magic | Send feedback »
Runescape have created a great spell for the master magician, I have nearly reached the dizzy heights of master but have got far enough to use the Ancients Ice barrage spell.
I have been able to use it for 2 days and like to experiment with new things, I am surprised by a few things and amazed by others.
First of all Ancients is a pain you need to rely on jewelry for teleportation, the names of the places you teleport to have nothing in common to the places they tele you to, so you need a list of places they tele you to, I used the list on Runehq so thank you guys for that, unfortunately Ancients was made for pkers so many of the teleport spells are for the wilderness.
After the usual duel arena and castlewars stint I decided to use it on the mole in Fally park, my thoughts were if I froze it could it burrow so I could just kill it at my leisure, well I got ready and down I went, I found him lurking around the normal central area all alone, I stood a safe distance away and ice barraged him, no hit so I tried again no hit and he was walking towards me he hit me so I ran back and tried again, it was constantly splashing, no matter where I went he could follow me he followed me all the way to the hole you enter his cave through, I tried again from there and no chance he was immune to ancients.
I have never seen him walk that far before, I have ranged him and he never followed out of his alloted zone, is the fact that he can follow you new or just a defence against ancients?
Ok so the mole is immune to ancients I though about pest control as there are often lots of monsters in 1 place there, I teled to Draynor Village using my glory and went to the outpost, I wear black dragon hide because I do not need strong armour there, I found a good world, having said that it was too good a world the portals were going down in seconds and I had trouble getting enough Zeal to get my point, at 117 combat I was one of the lowest levels there.
I have never considered myself a high level but a fairly high level, having seen these high level players work I realise just how low a level I am.
As normal the high levels left and it was still pretty good winning every game but not quite as quickly, this is a time when the fun starts we were attacking the portals, when a lot of spinners appear it is difficult to find out which ones are attacking me and the ones repairing the portals so I used the Ancients Ice Barrage to attack 1 of the spinners and cor blimey mate its like an ice cube factory attacking all monsters in a 9 ish square block sometimes 15 monsters deep often hitting multiple 30's at the same time, this is suicide because then all the monsters attack me even with 91 defence it is hard going withstanding 20 monsters constantly attacking me, as my health gets low I put on full Dharoks and get back on the portal until it is dead or I am.
Can you imagine the hp xp I was getting at pest control using Ice Barrage on the high density monsters.
It is not cheap Ice Barrage using 2 bloods 4 deaths and 6 waters per cast, but the xp makes it cost effective if used here.
My Journey 94 Mage and Ancients Ice barrage
By Steve on Feb 7, 2007 | In The News as it happens | Send feedback »
I had just got 93 mage and a friend of mine said that I was 1 level off of using Ice Barrage, I thought it was 96 for Ice so this knowledge drove me on to get that extra level.
I had just got 98 attack and my defence and strength were 100k from 91 so I stayed at the Abyssal Demons until I leveled both of those, this brought my combat up to 117 which was pretty nice.
Because metal dragons are very easy to raise mage xp I got equipped with my full white mystic and Chaos gauntlets 9, 4 strength anti fire breath pots 4k chaos runes (Free from my Barrows runs) 16200 fire runes and my trusted mystic air battlestaff, off I went and and ran to where the safe area for maging steel dragons, on my way I was attacked by an Iron one and had to kill it to get it off my scent which I did in a few minutes and woot what a nice surprise dragon legs, I started attacking the steel dragons, I stayed there all day got a lot of mage xp but still a long way to go.
I like to take a break between dragon attacks to stop my brain from freezing over and did a bit of pest control, I already had 19 points accumulated and after swapping world a few times I found a good world, everyone knew what they were doing and I was getting a point every 1 or 2 minutes, I wanted attack xp so used Veracs I could have used whip but I just fancied a change.
I managed to get my points to 100 and traded it in for mage xp and my mage xp shot up by about 150k, this further inspired me so I got equipped for steel dragons as before and started attacking, I forgot my chaos gauntlets so was hitting a max of 12 but was not going back, spent a day there and ran out of pots and no dragon drops.
My slayer was Black Demons so for a change I decided to mage them in Taverly dungeon, I had about 20k to go and boy did it go, I could not believe how quickly my mage xp was going up, so much faster than Steel dragons.
Woot woot what a beut I got 94 mage and access to the most powerful spell in Runescape Ice Barrage.
Fighting with Guthans armour for healing
By Steve on Feb 5, 2007 | In Melee, An Introduction | Send feedback »
After my recent success at Barrows where I got a Guthans war spear I decided to purchase the complete set, I do not buy expensive items so would not spend 5m on a weapon that I stood a chance of getting myself, I did spend 2.7m on a whip but that was well before I had 85 slayer so had no other chance of getting one.
I already had the helm so only needed skirt and body which is very cheap, in fact that is one of the common scams people try trading the Guthans items for whips because Guthans is so dear the scammers hope you think it must be worth it and trade, the usual sells spiel is buying whip for 2.4 million and when you trade they but up a Guthans skirt, if you decline they trade again and put up skirt and body both together are not worth the price of a whip.
Anyway I have added this guide as list of my first experiences of using Guthans as a training aid, I will try it on other monsters as I go along and advise the ones that it can or can not be used on effectively.
Obviously it can not be used on Abberant specters, Banshees, and any monster in the smoke well including the Dust Devils, these require the head gear appropriate to fight them with.
Guthans special will add the hit point damage inflicted on your foe to your own hit points, this is very random and at my present level I can add over 27 hp to my health in 1 hit, its not a very affective weapon to fight with because it is slow and does not allow the use of a shield, the most expensive weapon on Runescape is rarely used as a weapon, normally people fight with a whip or scimmy or any other attack method and only use the spear when hp is low.
The way I use it at Abyssal Demons is to wear full Guthans have the spear in my inventory and fight using a whip and dragon square shield, I take superset and fight until half health and then use the spear to heal, because Abyssal Demons don't hit often or hard it is quite safe to use Guthans.
Healing can be a problem on some monsters because it can take a long time to spec on them, if you have a high hitting monster make the most of any randoms you get, attacking an evil chicken or security guard is very effective with Guthans spear and can repeatedly heal large amounts.
Monsters such as the Kalphite Guardian can hit very hard and using the spear to heal is a bit dangerous, I tested it on them by using Keris to attack and the spear to heal at half health, I repeatedly needed to use sharks to avoid being killed while waiting for the spear to heal.
Attacking mage based attack monsters is a problem as you have minimal mage resistance, I had mage defence of 10 when fighting Bloodvelds so I was constantly taking damage with Guthans on, swapping with dragon hide was a pain so I just used full Guthans and kept it on taking damage and healing constantly.
I will add sections to our monster database advising what monsters are easy to use Guthans on as I go along, sorry it is a tiny database at present but I will be adding more as I go along, please check out our sponsors regularly use the search box on the right hand side to help cover the cost of this blog.
We are watching you

Don't be alarmed we cant see you, just to let you know that we have a stats tracker that lets us know how many people visit our site and how many used each search engine.
We also know what search terms you used to find us, the reason I am telling you this is because we are using this information to help you, every time we see a search term that is not mentioned in out blog we add the appropriate section and a post just for you, yes it is just for you so book mark this site and visit in a day or 2 as we will probably have the information you were after.
I have a lot of information to share with you it is just a matter of time before it is available for you all to read on our blog.
The main search that we come across is for free Runescape hacks and cheats, you can search high or low for these and you will never find them, you may get a free keylogger and lose your account when searching but surely its got to be worth the risk, think again no it is not worth it , DO NOT DO IT, do not even visit sites that offer this as you are very likely to lose your account.
If there is anything you have a particular interest in add a comment in the appropriate section and we will add the information you require in a day or 2.
A lot of people want lots of money in Runescape, in the last 2 days I made over 10 million I already have 25 million cash in the bank all Barrows items and probably over 60 million in other items, having cash is not so great unless you use it for skills, I don't own a Santa I don't want a Santa, it is a useless item,
Don't buy cash off of the internet you can lose your account as it is against the rules and there is no feeling of achievement when you have it.
You play the game to play a game so play the game don't pay the game.
Abyssal Demon fighting and whip drops
By Steve on Feb 2, 2007 | In The News as it happens | 6 feedbacks »
I have started this post to highlight a fact that has not been so clear to me until recently.
How random is random, I was 97 attack and I wanted to get 98, Abyssal Demons are the best monster to kill by far, not only for xp but they also drop Abyssal Whips without doubt the best general purpose weapon on Runescape, so I wore full Guthans with a whip and a dragon square shield I took super set and went to the abyssal space from Zanaris.
Abyssal Demons at the slayer Tower are better because they are more concentrated so it is easier to find another one after you kill your last but it gets very busy and you can often fight over demons.
In the Abyssal Space there is a place that is one block north of the fairy ring that you enter through, once you get there there are 2 Abyssal Demons that you can attack, without losing your time tolerance from the Abyssal Guardians.
This place is getting popular as well If you go into a world and there is someone there change world, it is not worth fighting over a demon.
As soon as you get there you are attacked by the Abyssal Guardians, these either range or mage and it is rare to get to attack the Demon before they attack you, you need to kill the Guardian before you can attack the Demon, as soon as the Guardian is dead attack the Demon as the Guardians re spawn very quickly, once you have been there a while you will be tolerated by the Guardians and you can concentrate on the Dancin' Demons.

There is a Demon that spawns in the central area you can attack him and just dance around until he is dead, there is a Demon to the east that can be attacked but beware he can dance you out of your safe zone and you will need to earn the trust of the Guardians again, the way I do it is to attack this demon only if he is to the east and within the direct line of the large space that I am fighting in, do not go south or north to get him, as soon as you hit him run back into your safe area and dance until he is dead.
The reason I wrote this post primarily was to highlight how random random is, I did get a bit carried away and ended up explaining the whole process of Dancin' Demon Demise, sorry couldn't avoid that bit of alliteration.
So to cut a short story long on day 1 and 2 I put in a lot of hours work and to my surprise I got no whips not even 1, I did get a clue and about 5 Rune Chains which I high alched, as I said I was using Guthans so I did not take any food, just attacked and switched to spear when I was at half health, when I healed fully I would wield my whip and d square again.
On Day 3 I was fighting for half an hour and got a whip, 20 minutes later I got another whip, later on that day I got 3 more whips, so in 2 days got no whips another day I got 5 whips in just a few hours, how random is that?

And I eventually got 98 attack, now only over 1m xp to 99 attack, time for a break I think.
