Cannon ignorance and cash for newbs.

I just thought I would take the time to write about ignorance on Runescape, its no more than many have experienced but a little bit of thinking and some possible confrontation could have been avoided.

I had a slayer task for Hell Hounds, Hell Hounds are OK for slayer xp but the drops are carp, they mainly drop gold charms so pretty much useless all round, some people kill them for clues but greater demons are better for clues have better charm drops and the odd good normal drop plus their easier to kill.
To get the task over as quickly as possible I decide to take my cannon to Taverly dungeon where I can set it up to kill about 4 or 5 at a time, I went to my usual spot and started cannoning, Hounds were falling all around with the normal gold charm and bones, never needing to pick up either I stayed and ranged the close Hounds and let my cannon do the rest, after a while a player comes along and says "OMFG", then "FFS" followed by "don't you have any consideration for others" I chose to stay quiet because it is not worth arguing, arguing only creates the opportunity for aggression and possibly people saying things that they may regret later, my only sentence had I not remained silent would have been, "I changed world 4 times to find a world with no one here it wont do you any harm to tolerate me until my task is complete or for you to find another world without a cannon".
Why a player comes to a training area and expect others to change the way they train when they arrive is beyond me.

Cash for newbs
I have a newb account that I keep just to get the holiday items, I was playing him the other day to get the Easter event stuff, after I got the emote and the carrot I decided to have a play with it and went to chop some logs, I had spent a few minutes earlier in the year so was 40 wood cutting already.
Chopping away I got to the level for an addy axe and upgraded by selling the logs I had chopped, I went to Draynor Village to chop the willows but was attacked by the mages, I couldn't be bothered to hide at the far end just to chop so I went to the oak trees near Varrock, I used my Addy axe and within a few hours I got high enough to use a rune axe, I sold the Oak logs for max on GE, they sold instantly and sold for more than the willows would have, I then bought a Rune axe and continued to chop, I got to 50 wc and sold all the logs I had, I had 50k, that was 50k on a level 7 combat account not including the money spent on the rune axe, so after 2 to 3 hours I had made 50k on an entry level account.

Many of the begging comments I get after free accounts state they have a level 3 account and only 100gp, after only a few hours of work I had gained 50k, had full steel armour and some other bits and pieces, why do these beggars expect to have a good account when they cant be bothered to train their own (alleged) account for a few minutes.
Money can be made easily just by training a skill and sticking at it, the longer you stick at it the more you will get, choose a skill you like and stick with it and cash will flow.

I will train that account to chop yews when the next holiday event is released or when I'm fed up of not levelling, It did give me an understanding of why skill pures find motivation, It was nice to have a low level account with old holiday items and more cash and higher skill levels than some of the other players, I am not going to train it as a skill pure because I like combat but I will stick at it for now.

Ho! Ho! Ho! Santa is for fun not just for Christmas

I have not been training so much, every now and then I log on do a slayer task or 2 then log off, although I have not been working hard I had acquired about 16m by selling the drops from my tasks.

I have my Santa suit that I had collected from the Christmas event last year and I thought I would buy a Santa Hat to finish it off, I watched the price on GE and the price had dropped to just below 13m and had remained stable for the last month and probably longer, I decide to try and buy at bottom, I left if for a week but no joy so put the price to normal and bought it straight away.

I had my Santa Suit and Santa Hat with blue Samurai hair, didn't quite look the part so I went to Fally to get a cut and colour, white beard and long hair was the order of the day and woot did I look good, I really was Santa at the start of summer, as normal when I skill I wore a ring of life just in case and started to train my summoning dressed as Santa Clause, I just carried on training with no comment from anyone, but I will be wearing it for a bit longer and anticipate a few comments.

Buying when the price was low was a good move financially, It would mean my chance of making a profit when selling later would be increased, the thing is I don't really care if the price drops to 1m, I bought it for fun and I will wear it even if the price shoots up until I have had enough of it.

You don't see many people wearing full Santa in the summer, I also wear chicken feet when I wear my full Armadyl just so I look the part, the fun part of me takes over in Runescape, I have always trained what I want to do, never forced into something to get a cape for the sake of a cape, taking on the kbd in full bronze has some interesting results.

If you play for fun and see Money/levels as a by product then Runescape becomes less of a chore, If you die and lose your armour who cares save up again and buy it back, if you have had it once you can get it again.

Give Jagex and Runescape a break

A very busy work life has severely limited my Runescape game play time, it has also made me look at Runescape in a totally different light, a chance to think about what is happening to Runescape as an occasional player, all the complaints, the great and not so great updates and people complaining about almost everything new.

Jagex have announced that this will be the year for updating what they already have, as normal there are lots of complaints about it, having looked at the updates so far there is a lot of new content, the improvements to what they already have have all added new content and features to the game.
Their main problem was that over the previous year, removing pking in the wilderness and the various games and content added to compensate we have had a substantial and constant barrage of huge updates for all levels of players free and p2p, we have become so used to a constant stream of new updates that we expect it all the time now, looking back the current updates are on a par with the updates pre pk removal, they have not stopped upgrading RS but returned to a normal level now the RWT problems are under control.

Looking at the Games as a not so regular player has made me think, OK the update wasn't great this week but who cares it is still a great game with tones for me to do, there is enough to do without rushing through an update to keep the masses happy, I don't mind waiting a week or two for an update provided it is an update to add playability or fun not just a rushed ill prepared addition to stop the moaners happy.

Stealing Creation revisited

When Stealing Creation was first brought out I wrote about a few concerns I had that were spoiling the game click here for more details, Jagex did not use my remedy but implemented another solution that has made the game a lot more fun and playable.

My concern was that Ancient Magic ensured that the side with the most level 94 mages won, Jagex did not take my suggestion and remove ancient magic but stopped the players using mage (and all other combat methods) from getting XP, this had the effect of removing all players just there for xp and left the players that were playing the game for fun and tools/armour, ancients still very much rules the roost but there are not large groups of mages barraging 1 team as soon as they leave their base.

The problem of thieves stealing all the runes from players in 1 go have not been addressed but it does not appear to be a problem any more, I guess people have learned to keep lots of food/clay in their inventories so the chance of taking the runes is reduced.

I have played a lot of Stealing Creation and I am very pleased with the playability of the game, the only drawback I see is that there is no motivation to win, I play for fun if I lose or if I die does not bother me, its nice to have your name on the score board but I will not change my gameplay style just for the honour of a few seconds of fame.

Other benefits include the extra xp from using the tools, I now use Sacred Clay harpoon for fishing sharks, great xp, the hammer can be used for construction now but not for flatpack and the pick can be used for stars although I only recommend it be used for the high level stars as you can get through a few picks per star.

Its nice that you don't need to keep remaking the tool every 100 uses, you can also get more than 1 tool per game, not sure if there is a restriction to the amount of tools you can get in 1 go but I have enough for now, would be nice if they stacked in the bank but I cant have everything my way.

Randomness on Runescape, good day, bad day.

I have written several times about the effects of random drops on Runescape, a recent situation that I have experienced is since I have been killing Dark Beasts I have probably had about 5 or 6 dark Bow drops, I am 99 slayer so I have killed a fair few in my time, over the last week I have had 3 tasks for dark Beasts and during those tasks I have had 5 dark Bows dropped, killing abyssal demons I haven't had a whip for many tasks, such is the randomness of drops.

The situation I noticed today is the good day bad day scenario, not necessary with drops but with general playing, I had Abyssal Demons for slayer I set off with my usual kit, Full Bandos, DFS, Whip, Dragon Boots, Fury, Ring of Wealth, super set and my trusty Bunyip.
I potted up and started killing and what a bad start hitting loads of zero's and very low hits, I mean 5 zero's and a 12, 5 more zero's and a 21 the occasional 40, 42 but very rare mainly zero's and hits below 20, this continued for the majority of the task, bare in mind I had potted up to 118 strength, attack and defence so hits below 20 should be rare, I felt as though I was using a God Sword with all the zero's but I wasn't I was using a whip, I get so bored of such a slow slayer task that I took a break and had some food.
An hour or so later I came back and started to finish the task, another 100 to do and the slaughter continued, but what a difference, hit a zero, hit a 42, hit a 40, hit a 36 hit a 20 and a few low hits but the majority high hits, most hits above 30, what had happened I had completed the 100 remaining monsters faster than the first 70.

This highlighted a situation that I had many times before, good days where everything I hit died, others where everything had a little bit longer to live, very noticeable and very annoying but I am sure just totally random, I am sure its the same as the good drop bad drop day we all have, although I am led to believe some players have bad drop, bad drop days.

Is there a variable that Jagex have installed that will give players a good day or a bad day a good task or a bad task? I doubt it but it does good to have an excuse for a poor days slaying.

Remember the Pages
Remember my post about God pages sky rocketing in price, click here to see I have done several clues recently and have had 2 Zammy a Sara and a Guthix page, so God Pages are back and the price has dropped accordingly, I can only guess they were missed from the Clue drop list and Jagex have been made aware, maybe from my post and been added again, I have also noticed that I am getting less furniture so perhaps furniture was added instead of the pages.

Where have I been
Sorry I haven't written for a while, started a new Job contract and its been keeping me away from Runescape and my blog for a long time, working 11 to 13 hour days, anyway its calmed down now and I should be getting on a bit more, watch this space.
