A reflection on the Grand Exchange

The Grand Exchange, I had anticipated this being a great success, my only concern was that if there was no control the price of items would just plummet over night, Jagex put in the 5% price change margin which prevented my only real fear.

It has been around a while and people are getting used to it, most of peoples stock piled items have been sold and the prices are starting to return to normal, most of the rants have died down, my opinion is the Grand Exchange is indeed Grand, it is good for all, it is great for people who want to buy stuff or sell in bulk, it is great for merchants and it is also an extension of your bank.

The prices on GE are not the same as before, that is a fact, some things are dearer some are cheaper, it is impossible to generalise on price changes because there is no set pattern.

The price of herbs has dropped, this may be because Herblore is a non profit skill, the price of pots is very low, at current price super attack pots are less than 300gp, that is a ridiculous price for such a useful pot.

The price of raw fish has dropped, this may rise with the fall of the bots after the unbalanced trade update, no signs of that yet, cooked fish is cheaper than raw so you make a loss cooking fish.

Logs were an interesting case, the price of Yew and Magic logs went on the GE at a very high price, I left these as I guessed the price would drop to the pre GE price but no the price went up, the price of logs was at an all time high, I guess there was a fletching boom, as people saw the price was so high more people were cutting trees to cash in on the latest money making scheme, as a result of that the prices are starting to fall as more logs are becoming available, supply on demand at its finest.

Now dragon bones, this is where I took advantage of the market, when they were introduced to GE they 1.9k, I went away and came back later and they were 1.55k quite a drop in a few hours, so I bought 25k dragon bones, I used them on my alter to get 99 prayer and sold the remaining bones on GE for 2.2k, the price has risen now to 2.5k, pre GE they were 1.8k and 1.5k before the piety prayer, interestingly the price of dragon hides has sky rocketed as well.

The price of high level ores has remained the same but low levels ores have dropped, this is the time to buy coal and iron ore.

Runes dropped in price they were very low for a long time, I guess this is because of stock piled runes, I have 12k nature runes and 27k law runes, I don't need to sell so I keep them, many others will have many more and just put them on GE to get rid of them, they have recently started to rise I guess maybe because the player stock piles are going down but I think it more likely because the free Law companies can no longer operate more people are buying laws, nature runes have risen but not by much, I anticipate the fall in prices of nature runes because Alching is no longer free xp, the price on GE will not fall below the alch price, alching is a slow and monotonous way of magic xp but popular because its low, free or profit making costs, I guess people will use combat spells so they can recover some of their cost from drops.

Armour, dragon hide is an end product of crafting and the price has dropped because crafting is a very popular skill and there are always people crafting dragon hides as one of the easiest methods to craft. the price of rune plummeted and is just starting to rise again dragon has remained about the same.

Seeds, the price of tree seeds does not effect me as I get mine from my kingdom, I have noticed that magic tree seeds have sky rocketed im not sure but I guess Yews would have as well, I have also noticed that Calquat seeds are very low about 35K as opposed to over 200k for Magic seeds, I believe the xp from Calquat trees is similar to Magic, the only difference is Calquat can not be looked after by a farmer and take longer to grow, at that price difference you can afford to lose many Calquat trees and still be saving money, I lose about 1 in 5.

Weapons, dark bow has dropped from 3.2m to 2.3m, dragon scimitar and dragon long are hanging around cost price, whip dropped and has now started to rise again, the DDs or DDP++ as it is now known has fallen below the cost price, dragon dagger cost 30k in the fairy place and P++ used to cost 15K, put them together and you have a DDS for 25K, I know many of the use of the DDS has been taken away with the liberation of the wilderness but it is still a very powerful weapon.

There are many people who say that it is no longer possible to merchant, I have always said the good merchants can thrive with the GE and the bad ones will moan, a good merchant will adapt to the changes in Runescape and learn other ways to make money through trading, the only difference now is you need to be on the ball with prices (easy with the GE) and be alert and watch price trends, make the most of updates and speculate using the Runescape announcements, Ok you need some intelligence now instead of just luck but isnt that the way it should be?

I use the GE as an extension to my bank If I am going somewhere new and I don't know very well I will wear rune boots instead of dragon, I can buy these easily at bottom price and sell them again if I am finished often for max price, this is the same with almost anything.

Despite peoples addiction to moaning there are no drawbacks to the GE, Ok prices have changed but not to any great extent, it is just a case of adjusting to these prices, if you keep thinking of things as pre GE price you may buy many things and not others, if you just accept prices as they are and buy what you want you will have what you need.

I was going to do a full wilderness and unbalanced trade summary but this post started to get a bit big, I will do those at a later date.

The 2007 Runescape Christmas Event

The new Christmas event is out, its a short event and the end result is a glass dome with a model of Lumbridge castle in it that snows when you shake it, big deal!!!

Well actually it is a big deal, the event although initially is quick can be fun when you get to the land of snow, you can build snow warriors, mages and rangers and get them to fight with each other, you can keep your snowman alive by pelting it with snowballs it is quite possible to spend hours there just fighting other snowmen.

There is always a downside and this event has been left open to be exploited by "bullies" the side of Runescape with the intellect slightly lower than the snowmen being built here, I guess these are the same people who like to complain and quit after every update. their activity that seems to float their boat is to watch people build snowmen and put their own parts on it before the person building it can, this means the person who did the work can not claim their snowman and have to start again, although its not a major thing in the whole context of things it is rather rude activity, perhaps they should be reported for bug abuse, they certainly are bugging.

And just a side note to the above paragraph, I have a few noob accounts and I collect the event items for each event for them, when collecting the snow dome I never witnessed the amoeba activity mentioned above on the f2p world, it doesn't mean it doesn't happen I just never witnessed it on any of my accounts, but noticed it on both mine and my sons members accounts.

That is not the best of the event, the best is infinite snowballs, shake your dome your inventory fills with snow balls, you can lob these at other players anywhere (Maybe not BH) myself and a group of friends spend ages yesterday pelting each other with snowballs, it was very cold but loads of fun was had by all, and all you guys who quit weekly because of the updates, you have your wildy back take your balls and get pelting.

This is the range equivalent of the rubber chicken, I was not aware of RS when the chicken came out so missed it, I would have given anything for that chicken but the snowball does fine for me now.

I have also heard of people at chinnies not being able to see their traps because of snow, this is a bind but must be funny to see, I have sympathy for you guys, I can see its a pain just wait until the novelty has warn off and things will be back to normal.

And a last note, there is/was a thread on the official forum in the same format as the the day Runescape died, I'm quitting threads about the snow update this time, it was just a >:XX take of the weekly update quitter protests, things like I am quitting I can not walk through Varrock without the fear of slipping and hurting myself, the penguins have released this in an attempt to overthrow Runescape, I am now quitting because of the ever increase of the danger of Polar Bear attacks.

It had to happen 99 Prayer, I got my wings (not a Red Bull in site).

It is indeed true, Dragon Bones give you wings.

I had 98 Prayer I had enough bones for 99, its quick and easy so my break from Prayer only lasted 2 slayer tasks, I couldn't just go around mindlessly slaughtering poor dragons and Nechs when there is cape to be got.

So I got my bone kit and went for it, after 2 short days (only short sessions I have been busy at work) of work I finally got my wings for 99 prayer this morning.

I apologise to all my friends if I have ignored you but I was a man on a mission.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

I finally got 99 prayer
I finally got 99 prayer, quite quickly and very boring but I got it.

Dragon bones "Give you wings"
Dragon bones "Give you wings" I believe I earned my wings getting 99 Prayer.

I've done it I have joined The Elite I am now a Master of Combat

I have reached the ultimate challenge in Runescape, after days of boning I have gained the very respectable level of 126 combat.

I normally keep my achievements quiet or maybe just a small mention as im typing another post but this is the ultimate, the only stat you can have above 99 permanently.

I really cant say that prayer is hard to train it is probably one of the easiest and fastest of the combat skills, but it does take a lot of activity and having to use every bone with the alter, the only other restricting factor is money, it is very expensive, thanks to the Grand Exchange the bone prices dropped enough for me to get all I needed for 99.

I haven't yet got 99 Prayer 98 was enough to take me to 126 but I have enough bones for 99, im just taking a break for now it should only take a day or 2 to get 99 and I can then claim my wings.

Woot I got 98 prayer
Woot I got 98 prayer, not enough for my wings but enough for 126 combat

This looks so pretty 126 Combat
This looks so pretty 126 Combat

Just for the hell of it here are my stats, pretty impressive if I say so myself.

here are my stats
here are my stats

As you can see I need one more magic and one more prayer level to max all my combat, then I will be a pking king, the ultimate pker, oh I forgot pkers have been changed to pilers, anyone for chicken.

Wilderness Changes, Bounty Hunter and Clan Wars!

Its the end of the world as we know it!!

Ok the end of Pking has arrived, sorry you pkers its the end of unorganised pking, but hey don't worry you can still team attack a defencless players you just can't attack skillers! C'est la vie.

I have mixed views on this update, I did like the danger of the wildy, I did like killing off noobs who had a go at me, but the up date has opened a whole new world to a new group of players.

I will start off with the Bounty Hunter, this is great for the normal cowardly pker, you are assigned one player to attack you need to track them down or tele next to them, you then need to kill them, this sounds great and lots of fun? nope the chicken mentality of the pker makes it so they can group and all attack the player attacking, this is the same as clan wars were before this update but instead of a clan all attacking another clan you get a clan attacking 1 player, this area should not be multi if your not in a team you stand no chance.

I went in with Keris and a few lobbies I found my bounty and attacked, I was set upon by about 10 players all over 95 combat, even at 125 I stood no chance, this should suit the chicken pker but for the more brave adventurer without backup its not going to happen.

I went to the Clan wars area, there was a Jagex Mod trying to answer questions but most of the time he was getting abuse and people threatening to quit, he had many reasonable situation where he could have muted players on the spot, I believe they had anticipated this and will only mute persistent bad language.

I never got into the Clan Wars but will check it out later.

The rest of the wildy is fun fun fun, this has opened a whole new area for less aggressive type players, you can now mine rune ore, complete mage arena and attack the chaos elemental with controlled danger, I had 2 attempts at the Chaos Elemental and killed him on both occasions, I got 1k coins and 500 iron arrows, I can see the price of rune ore dropping and there being a flood of dragon 2 handers available, I can also see the price of treasure trail items dropping too.

There is still a great danger, the new monsters appear from no where and they are nasty, they hit hard I was hit 27 from a level 126, he heals himself and mages and ranges, it took me 2 attempts to kill 1 but I did succeed and got 800gp, what is nice is I can wear whatever I want in the wildy now so I can take on the KBD with my best gear on.

This is a massive new area for many players to explore, there are far more normal players than pkers so this is going to benefit the majority of players.

I do feel sorry for the pkers but you now have chicken central your very own chicken coop so you can pile any players who takes your fancy.

On the more serious note Jagex are taking a lot of abuse over this update, many players are threatening to quit, can't say I've ever seen an update where people haven't threatened to quit, but you do need to look at it from their point of view, Real world trading is a very real problem there is no avoiding that, people are blaming Jagex for these measures, think about it, is it Jagex who have forced these measures or is it the people buying the gold.

You only need to think of the next few days or weeks even, Jagex need to think of the future.
