Runescape Pest Control Tips

Please note that pest control has now changed, these rules should no longer be followed as they are not accurate, I will leave this post here as a reminder of how life was.
As a follow up to to my previous Pest Control post I have spent a lot more time there, the reason being simply as your level gets higher the rewards from pest control increase.
In my quest for 99 Attack I spent 2 days getting from just past 98 to almost halfway towards 99, I had about 600k xp to get a friend asked how long to 99, I wasn't sure but I said probably 3 to 4 days.
Well guess what, the next day he logged on I had already bought the cape, how? pest control!!!
A lot of people have a few strange and untrue ideas about pest control.
1/ is a low level player better off in a world with high level players? No this is not true to get the benefit of being able to do all things in Pest Control you should be in a world with the same or similar level players.
The Reason for this is that pest control is calculated by the amount and level of the players in each game, for example a game with 24 level 126 players and a level 90 player the level 90 player would not be able to cause sufficient damage to the portal to get 50 Zeal, the only way they could get sufficient zeal is to attack the monsters..
I would prefer to be in a game with 24 level 80's who know what they are doing than a game with players with similar combat levels as myself, I know I will hit the portal constantly with the level 80's and hit loads of 0's with the higher level players even with 99 attack.
Runescape automatically pick players with a similar combat level for each game because of this, I have often been the only player on the boat and when a load of players come in I have been given priority over the following players entering and left on the boat, this is most annoying especially if I have been there a while already.
So the best plan of attack is to find a world with players of a similar combat as yours and stay there.
2/ The myth that specials cause spinners is one that raises its head occasionally, this started when PC was new and has refused to go away, it does not cause spinners! please continue to spread the rumour because it makes me laugh when a nub mentions it.
I find it funny when players use the whip special on the portal, why you would want to remove the run energy from the portal and transfer to yourself I do not know, the portal has never been seen to move by me and I imagine anyone else.
3/ If you lose a game the world is carp, unfortunately because people believe this the good game world are constantly changing, Pest Control is random and it may be that there were brawlers blocking people from the spinners causing you to lose the game, this is bad luck and the next game will be different, don't give up and change world if you lose a game.
I have often seen people on the side saying looking for 80 plus or 100 plus world, after I have won 5 games they are still there, what do they want points or a clan war.
Ok back to my tips
- You do not need to kill Spinners
I repeat you do not need to kill spinners, simply attack them once and continue to attack the portal, I take ancients to pest control and use Ice Barrage to get the attention of all the spinners in one go, they then start to attack me, I then continue to attack the portal, I would love to be able to use Ice Barrage on the nubs who keep saying kill the spinners, countless games have been lost by people killing spinners that are attacking me instead of killing the portal.
The portals are weak to certain attacks unless you are training a certain attack style it is a good idea to use their weakness, as soon as you leave the launch the purple portal to the right is weak to range, using range will damage this one quickly.
The next one around is the pink one I think this is weak to melee but I am normally barraging the spinners because no other nub will attack the m.
Then there is the yellow this one is weak to melee as well but again no one can get to the spinners because of brawlers so I end up barraging all the monsters to get to the spinners.
Then last of all the light blue one this is weak to mage, I can destroy this one on my own with Ice Barrage and also take out the spinners and other monsters past it.
As I mentioned the Yellow portal is prone to brawlers blocking and it is very difficult or impossible to get to the spinners, there is an easy way to clear the way here, get the person being attacked by the brawler to walk away letting others in to kill the spinners, why people insist on fighting the brawlers or just ignoring them and attacking the portal when spinners are healing more than they can damage I will never understand, all you need to do is walk away and let the others in, you can then come back and fight or kill the brawler.
In my last post I mentioned that portal attackers should stand in front but to the side of the portal so they can attack spinners when they show, it is a good idea to have a lower level player stood in the middle but 1 space back killing the monsters as they come out, this will queue the monsters by the portal not giving them space to mage or range the void knight and also preventing them from damaging the barricades, getting a couple of players to do this will ensure continuity if one dies.
I have been in many games where I have needed to use my Ice Barrage to win, this is not necessary if everyone took responsibility and did one roll and helped others if required.
Another habit to get into is to run to the next portal if you have destroyed one even if they are on low xp, this is because spinners can repair a portal very quickly if not stopped, I have seen a portal go from 1 xp to full xp and the game lost because of a lack of help.
