Firemaking is Runescapes' most useful skill, with good firemaking you can cook food, having said that at level 1 firemaking you can cook food, so what good is it?

Some people say burning logs of different woods the fires last different amount of time, in tests I have performed this is not true a magic log does not last any longer than a willow log so there is no benefit in a higher firemaking level.

The main benefit in firemaking that I can see is being able to light better lamps, this has a use in the Lumbridge swamp dungeon, having a lit candle can cause an explosion and blow your light out causing you damage, the bugs will then start to eat and kill you if you don't leave that room and light it again, the highest level lamp is 65 for the mining hat light.

There is another very good reason to increase your level in firemaking where the potential for some good prayer and firemaking xp as well as some great financial rewards.

At level 75 firemaking you can burn magic logs, at level 80 you can burn magic pyre logs, magic pyre logs are magic logs that have been soaked with sacred oil that is made by using olive oil on the flame in the centre of the temple constructed for Shades of Mort'ton quest, burning mage pyre logs you can cremate the Fyre shades level 120, you will get cash or silver keys when you cremate them on the funeral pyres around Mort'ton, use these keys to open chests in the shade dungeon and get some great prizes, ranging from rune weapons level 3 clues and fine cloth used to make splitbark armour, it is rare to not get at least a few rune weapons in half an inventory of keys so it can pay well. the whole process is slow but you do get prayer, firemaking and crafting xp as well as a fair amount of valuable items.

Well there you have it the useful side of firemaking, like many skills there is a limit to when there is a benefit, firemaking stops at 80.

The reason I wrote this is because I was training firemaking on maple logs that I get as a bye product of my miscelanea kingdom, I have my workers chop maples so I get the birds nests with tree seeds in for farming and herblore.

I have 2 places that are good for firemaking, one outside seers bank the other at varrock east bank, now I am not sure if it my combat level the clothes I wear or what it is but people think im the local tourist information office, I can not burn for 5 minutes without someone coming up to me and ask me something, things like, have you done such a quest, do you have any "random items" for sale, and the worst is "do skill emote" I never respond to any, im burning logs you need to constantly click logs to burn, there is no burn x like many other skills have x capabilities there needs to be constant activity.

There is a bank next to me with loads of people in just stood around, why am I more likely to have done a quest than them, why am I more than likely to have the very item you want than the people in the bank, why would I stop what I am doing to show my emote to someone who doesn't know the word "please".

In a 5 minute period I had 2 people follow me (When you are firemaking you push them along) I had 1 person ask if I had limps for sale (If I have limps for sale I stand in a bank saying "limps for sale" not walk up and down firemaking), someone asked me if I had done one small favour, (I have done all quests but I am busy ask someone who is in the bank just stood around) and 2 show emote.

I am more than happy to help people with all sorts of things but I should be allowed to train without being the Runescape tourist information officer.

Another thing that is a pain is as soon as you start burning someone else comes and starts burning, there are few places that you can have 2 people burning without it slowing you down by needing to split lines, this is why I have 2 places I regularly use, as soon as someone comes to one I tele to the next, I could stay and stand my ground but it will slow the training down, I don't like firemaking and want to get it over quickly so just move on.
