Best route to level melee combat
I am often asked what order to level melee combat skills.
The answer to that is not straight forward but there is a definite best way to do it, this is likely to differ from the way you want to train it due to the fact that people like to see immediate visible results.
Its a good idea to train all stats equally but if you want a skill cape the quickest way is to train attack then strength then defence.
Training attack first will make more of your hits count, if you hit more often your xp will go up quicker than if you hit occasionally hard, I would sooner hit 3, 30's out of 5 than 2, 35's out of 5, work out the maths for yourself, its not always that easy with the Runescape random generator coming into effect but over the period of a level there will be a definite advantage in training attack, another benefit over strength is you can use a whip to train and this is again a lot quicker than any other weapon for training.
Then strength next, now you can hit as often as possible lets make every hit as hard as you can make it, because your attack is maxed you will be able to hit your max more often, as you increase your strength level your max hit will increase but the attack level will make more of your hits count and increase the amount of xp.
Defense is next this will allow you to fight for longer because you will be taking less damage, defence is important and with maxed attack and strength you will be hitting your max hit as often as possible and this will increase your xp and defence will now increase a lot more rapidly than if you trained it first.
Using pots and super pots/sets will speed up your level increases by a lot, dress with maximum attack and strength bonuses, training slayer as you go will also help to break up the monotony and get you xp in another skill at the same time.
Use a whip for attack and defence and a d scimmy or d long for strength.
I have left hp because this is difficult to train independently and will go up as you train the other skills.
Prayer is easy to train but can work out expensive, getting to level 70 will not take long and not cost a great deal if using a gilded altar or the ectophunctus, prayer will increase your combat level and can help you fight for short periods but is not good for prolonged fighting without using expensive prayer pots.
The reason I say this method may not be the way you want to train it is because people like to see high hit numbers when they fight, the fact that these number are not very often does not change the fact that they have hit hard.
The easiest way to train is to do it for fun, do it because you enjoy doing it and your level will shoot up effortlessly

Your Such a noob!
First of all attack is not better then streght, Second defense doesnt help with hurting someone. And if you've been playing for years and are only 50 combat, thats sad. I only play 1 hour a week and im 63 combat. And having your levels equal gets you pwned against another player. Im evel 63 combat, 70 mage, 60 range and ill pwn you anyimr
Next time your attacking Metal Dragons, The kalphite Queen, or any god wars boss solo tell me strength is more important than attack, im 99 attack strength and defence and I still hit lots of zero's against steel dragons.
BTW I was 50 when I found RuneHQ I am currently level 135 combat 2162 total level, and for the record im 99 mage, range, prayer and HP, but if you want to pawn me I will take you on you in your best gear and me not wearing armour in the duel arena, I am happy to come to free to play.
Mine goes 10str then 10 attack then 25 str then 20 attack then 40 str then 30 attack then 50 str then 40 attack then higher str... depends on what else you wanna train.
I would suggest using your technique, every 10 levels, level attack to 10, then strength, then defence...
Then do the next 10 levels: stop training defence once you reach the level you need to wear the armour you want, and once attack and strength are maxed, powerlevel away!
I would never suggest training 99 attack while the rest are 1, I give my readers a bit more credit than to think that.
The way I trained it was take attack up in steps of 5, for example take attack 5 above strength, then catch up with strength then defence, take up attack another 5 then follow with strength then defence, I did this until 90 attack, strength and defence then took attack up to 99, then 99 strength then 99 defence.
Your technique of training in jumps of 10 is just as efficient, provided attack is ahead of strength and defence then training will be greatly increased.
