The Ourania Rune Altar

My lowest skill just became my second lowest skill!!!
I don't like runecrafting as you may well be aware if you read this blog regularly, when Jagex brought out the Ourania Rune Altar it sounded interesting so I thought I would take a look.
It is north of the observatory so I used the dueling ring to get to castlewars ran north over the bridges and headed north east I found the Zamorak prayer alter and there was a ladder next to it, I never tried to go down so not sure if you can use it before talking to the Zamorak person next to it, I know Jagex usually like you to chat to people before you enter new places.
When you go down there is a small fairly safe area and there is a bank symbol and a guy wandering around with a backpack, he is a freelance banker and will give you access to your bank for a fee, the fee is 20 runes and you can choose which ones you give him.
There are 2 paths to the Ourania Rune Altar there is a long route and a short route, the long route is indeed a long route and the short route is guarded by the Zamorakian Magical Institute (ZMI), these guards use melee range and magic attacks so you can not be protected from all means of attack with prayer. it is a good idea to use protect from one type of attack and there is a pray alter just outside so you can top up after every trip.
I wore black dragon hide and had a mud staff and didn't use prayer, all my melee stats are 99 and mage and range in the high 90's and I still took up to 9 damage on some runs from guards.
Lower level players will take a large amount of damage choosing this route but it can be done.
Tactics
If you have 71 mage and lunar spell book you can use tele to the Ourania Rune Altar and you appear at the end of the path outside the entrance to the alter dungeon, make sure you have full inventory of pure essence and all pouches full, go inside and run the short route to the Rune Altar and craft them, you can then tele to Moonclan island or use dueling ring to castlewars to bank and get more ess then repeat.
I have 88 agility and I ran out of energy after just a few trips, you can either take an energy pot when you bank or do as I did and walk to the runcrafting dungeon and put run on for the run along the tunnel to the alter.
Lower level players can use the bank in the tunnel take a lot of runes that you have surplus and use that as payment get your ess and take the long path to the alter then walk back and repeat.
Rewards
Crafting at this alter needs pure essence, you get one rune per essence and you can get all runes including elemental runes (air, water, earth and fire) you can also get bloods nats and deaths etc. so you will be changing 1 pure ess into an elemental rune, pure ess is 100gp and elemental runes about 20gp so you make a loss, if you craft elemental runes at a normal alter you can get multiple runes per essence, if you get a nat or blood nats are 300gp bloods about 500 you make a slight profit, at 70 rc I was getting more elemental runes than good runes so I made a loss.
You may wonder what the benefit of using this place is.
The main benefit is xp you get a lot of xp per run, I never measured it but I went up a level crafting here a lot quicker than my last level crafting laws the previous fastest crafting xp on Runescape.
I did hear about some people quoting 1.5 x xp crafting here compared to other places and I had a friend quoting 900 to over 1k xp per run at 75+ rc level, he frequents this blog so I hope he adds a comment clarifying this for me.
The Ourania Rune Altar is great for xp perhaps the best in the game but it is not good for your cash flow.
I was bored after one rc level but I will be going back for my other levels.
Law running (I know the best way)

I hate runecrafting it was my only stat below 70, I decided that the easiest way for me to get it to 70 was making laws, so I got my pouches and went to castlewars caught a balloon to Entrana and ran to the altar and teled back to cw, I did this a few times and I thought i would time it so I did.
I set the timer as soon as I closed the bank with my ess, I had 100% energy and ran to the balloon I caught the balloon to entrana ran to the altar made my runes emptied pouches and made runes and teled to CW and stopped the clock as soon as I entered the bank.
I thought I would compare it to the way I used to do using glory to Draynor Village, I closed Draynor bank and started the timer ran to the monks caught ferry to Entrana and as before ran to altar runed emptied pouches runed and teled to Draynor Village and stopped the timer as soon as I opened the bank.
My pouches broke so I thought I would time the abyss way, I wore my glory closed the bank started timer , ran to trench and jumped over (No warning I have it disabled) up to the mage teled to abyss straight to agility obstacle through first time ran around to the portal went in runed emptied runed and tele to edgy and stopped timer when I opened the bank.
All runs went perfectly the abyss way can take longer if the obstacle fails but this time it was good.
And drum roll please the results.
Using the balloon to Entrana and tele CW 1.25 seconds
Using boat to Entrana and glory to Draynor 1.45 seconds
Uisng Mage to abyss to altar then glory to edge 1.35 seconds
Needless to say I stuck with the balloon.
There are other things to take into consideration this was for perfect runs, the abyss you can fail obstacles and this will add seconds to the time, you can get pked and lose your pouches this can add hours to your time.
Using draynor it is a lot longer to walk so your energy will reduce quicker making you walk and adding many seconds to the time.
The balloon wins hands down and I got my level 70 in RC'ing, im not looking forward to all stats being 80.
