Stealing seeds for farming
By Steve on Aug 7, 2007 | In Thieving, Farming | Send feedback »
The easiest way by far to get seeds for farming is by stealing them from master farmers, you need to be a level 38 to steal from master farmers and you will get caught regularly at that level, it is however still worth it but you will just need to take extra food.
First of all you need to work out what you are thieving for is it xp or is it seeds or both, the difference being is what you take in your inventory.
You can wear whatever you like, there is a myth going around that wearing armour increases your chance of getting caught, this is not true and it is advised to wear armour if you are a lower combat level player thieving from stalls in Ardougne but stealing from master farmers is hazard free (With the exception of randoms)and the damage taken from being stunned.
When you thieve from a farmer the seeds go into your inventory, when your inventory is full you still risk the chance of getting caught but any seeds you do not already have in your inventory are not taken and you receive no xp for thieving them.
Thieving for seeds and xp, Your inventory should hold at least 1 of each seed that you want, I normally have ranaar, snapdragon, sweetcorn, melon and strawberry. to train for xp as well you should have at least one of each of the common seeds such as cabbage, barley, tomato and potato. the more types of common seeds you have the more chance of xp from your thieving attempt the rest should be food, as you eat your food when you are stunned you will have more room for seeds and more chance of xp.
Thieving for seeds only, just have one of each seed you want in your inventory and the rest food.
Thieving for xp just take no food and thieve till you die then tele back.
There are two places for thieving from master farmers the best now is Ardougne head north out of the market place and keep going towards Seers he is located by the potato field and farming shop area. the second one is at Draynor Village in the market place.
The best technique for thieving in Ardougne is to try and trap him in the field with the potatoes, he can still run around but there are no obstacles so you can just click on him and don't even need to change the camera angle, basically you just keep clicking and watch the xp mount up and the seeds pile up, be ready for new players to open the gate and let the farmer out, don't call them noobs just ask if they can keep the gate shut if they come in, not everyone understands what you are doing.
If you are stunned you take a little damage (2hp I think) just keep clicking and eat if you need to, even when stunned keep clicking so you can get back at him as soon as possible, you can eat potatoes from the field if you want but they taste carp.
As a courtesy to other players if you leave for food wait till the farmer is away from the gate leave and shut the gate as soon as you are out, it makes life easier for the other players teaches people good manners and they may do the same for you next time.
If you are full of seeds and low on health there is a bank a short way south west drop the seeds you don't want in the bank (others may want them) and it also stops newbs from opening the farm gate to get at them.
I little tip, if you are farming and going to the north ardy patch pick a few seeds until your health is low and continue to your patch, heal on the produce you grow, I did that for a long time and my thieving went up nicely.
This is also a way of making money selling high level seeds, ranaar at current prices are 20k to 25k, melons are 1k each. its not a great way nothing in thieving is a great way of making money but it is a way.
I hope you enjoy this post please add a comment and I will keep the guides coming, digg it and I will love you forever.
How I got 99 thieving
By Steve on Jul 18, 2007 | In Thieving | Send feedback »
I have always enjoyed thieving and that is why it is probably one of the easiest for me to get to 99,
I Started off as all will thieving men and women, I then moved on to the tea stall in Varock, I would have used the cake stall in Ardougne but I was a low level combat and Ardougne was the other end of the world, also the tea stall you never get caught if you stand in the correct place and you never fail to thieve.
I eventually got to Ardy and thieved all the stalls I could as my levels increased, running around all the stalls waiting for them to restock taking cakes while waiting, stalls are ideal if you pick a busy world you get xp rare chance of getting caught and sometimes a useful product, I got 5 crafting levels from the silver I stole when I was good enough to craft silver.
I would thieve from NPC's for a change but it is a pain getting caught, you can always use the cakes from the stall to heal but getting caught slows it down considerably, another tip is to put the mouse on 1 button this makes it easier to click then select pickpocket, as a rule of thumb to make it worth while thieving from an NPC you should be 10 to 15 levels higher than the required thieving level for them, with exception of Paladins, I still get caught by them too much.
When you get to 50 this is when the fun starts, off to Rogues Den and attack the bank vaults, you can stay here for ever one click thieve on the vaults, if you get caught you can thieve again straight away not getting stunned, the only delay is if you are successful waiting for the door to shut, if you fail you take damage but you can get the cakes you stole earlier to heal, you get coins from 10 to 40 gp and many gems great for crafting.
I also thieved the master farmers these again are 1 click thieve and if you trap them in the field at Ardy there are no obstacles to chase around so you can just point and click, you get useful seeds for farming, take half an inventory of food at lower thieve levels, you get no xp for thieving if you have no room in your inventory for the seeds, the seeds stack so keep the common ones there so you can just add to them.
When I reached 85 I started on the Gnomes, getting caught regularly but the xp gained is great when successful, I also used the gold for crafting frogs for herblore and fire orbs for crafting and cash, its near a bank so easy for food and banking loot, also if your inventory is full you drop the loot you take on the floor so you can pick up what you want and leave the worms.
I did this till 88 then contact quest came out, there was a bank next to the pyramid plunder pyramid so I gave that a try, it was OK xp so I carried on and got 91 just so I could get in the top room, I took a break in between levels just so it didn't get boring, I had the help from the RuneHQ PP calculator, this was great for motivation and determining the best way to play to maximise XP, I was surprised how few games I needed for the next level.
I would select chest in all rooms, no lock pick, no charming or checking for snakes and only search all urns in the last room I could reach, using the calculator I could determine how many games I needed to get to the next level, in the top room it would normally take the full 5 minutes so I could have a rough estimate of the time taken to get that amount of games. when you get to the next room the amount of games drops dramatically so I didn't risk looting urns in the previous room instead I went to the last room looted then went out and started again if I finished early.
I would have started PP earlier if the contact bank was there earlier, I am not sure if PP is quicker than gnomes but in PP you are driven by time to complete and it gives the impression of being very quick.
I am now 99 thieve and I still thieve from master farmers for seeds and my rank is rocketing, I guess some people are driven by the 99 cape and stop when they get it, I just enjoy it.
As you can see I did this over a great deal of time, I tried to train all my stats evenly but the skills I enjoyed and the obligatory skills (Fletching and cooking) I decided to max out.
The last levels 88 to 99 I could have achieved in 2 weeks quite easily,
Pyramid Plunder Tips and tricks
By Steve on Apr 16, 2007 | In Mini games, Thieving | Send feedback »
I had a thieving level of 89 and I wanted to get level 91 so I could thieve and do everything thieving on Runescape, in the past I have thieved from gnomes these are very good xp but are not worth the time until you are at least level 85, in fact it took about 3 hours to get some of the levels above 85 which is quick for a relatively high level skill.
When pyramid plunder first came out I didn't like it you were a long way into the desert you needed lots of food and anti poison, you were running around getting poisoned by snakes attacked by high level monsters and clicking pots, I could only do a few runs before needing to tele to duel arena run to shanty top up with food and anti poison pots then walk or pay to carpet to Pollnivneach then Sophenam.
With the release of the Contact quest there is a bank next to the pyramid so it makes it a lot easier, contact is a fairly difficult quest and aimed at mid to high level players so it is not ideal for all players but it is not as difficult as Jagex make it out to be.
So lets assume you have access to the bank, if you do not have access to the bank you will need to tele to duel arena and come back when you are out of food but I will continue as if you can.
First of all you need to pick the lock of the pyramid to get in, at level 90 thieve I failed about 2% to get in, when you fail you let the mummy shut the door and try again, you have four doors to choose from and the door the guardian mummy is in will remain the same for some time so remember which it is, if you pick the wrong door there will be no yellow dot on the mini map so you just exit and try another door, when you exit you are always sent out of the door at the north of the pyramid.
When you find the door with the guardian mummy provided you have done the requirements to get in which if I remember correctly is just get instructions on how to do it right click him and select start game, he will send you to the first room
The principle here is the same for all levels, the best option is to get to the to the highest room you can get to, you first need to deactivate the spear trap to get into the room with the urns, click all the doors except for the white one, the white one sends you outside, all of the doors except one have a dead end when you open a door with a dead end just go onto the next door.
A little tip here the door to the next room is the same for all players so watch the others players as you check the doors, if another player clicks a different door and disappears either that is the door to the next room or their time is up, try that one next if it is the next room you will have saved some time for searching the earns on the last room you can reach.
Another tip to maximise your xp per run is when you get to a room click the chest in the centre before you move on to the next room, the chests have the best xp and best artifacts, this doesn't slow you down much and it is well worth it for the extra xp, the chest release a swarm of scarab beetles occasionally these are very annoying but just ignore them and head for the next room, another tip if there is already a swarm by a door click that door for the next room, the swarm will have followed the previous player to the door that takes them to the next room so if you are quick enough it will be the same door for you.
The scarab swarm are about 25 hp so if you get them on the last room you can reach it doesn't take long to kill them.
When you get to the last room you can reach search all the urns and last of all search the sarcophagus this my spring out a mummy (It is quite likely) and this mummy will attack someone in the room usually the person who opened it, the mummy can hit hard so be very careful, you should then exit, you may even be expelled by the guardian mummy if you have exceeded the 5 minutes allowed in the pyramid. .
The reason you only search the last room is because the xp for each urn is the highest, it is better to get the best xp exit and start again as opposed to get lower xp and hope you have enough time for the highest room.
Things to take,
If you are a lower level player take some armour
If not wear boots of lightness and spottier cape if you can wear it and all should take a good weapon.
wear a ring of life just to be safe, the scarab swarm can hide your health bar when they attack.
Lots of food, anti poison is not required as the poison does not do too much damage but it is up to you you may prefer to not have green splodges every now and then.
take a quick tele if you are not that confident but shouldn't be required.
You get paid for the artifacts that you collect, I collect the gold ones that I have room for but let the rest fall on the floor as I search the urns, I do not pick any up because I am there for thieving xp.
Xp is very good for this game these figures are from memory but are fairly accurate just to demonstrate the xp given.
I want to get to 91 thieving from 90, using the Runehq Calculator it showed that I needed 40 games to get to 91 using the best route, all chest on all floors, then all urns on the last floor, not using lock picks or searching and charming snakes.
Thats 40 5 minute games to get 91 and 700 games to get to 99, when I got 91 I used the same calculator it was 50 games to 92 and 400 games to 99 just because I could get in the last room.
It takes a time to do this game but it does seem to fly by when you are doing it and the xp jumps are really nice per game.
Another tip I should have added, it always says that it is easier with a lock pick when opening doors, it is easier but you lose xp and it is not of any benefit to use one because you get enough time to search all if not most urns anyway.
