Motivation for woodcutting
By Steve on Aug 22, 2007 | In Farming, Wood cutting | 3 feedbacks »
Chopping trees is not very exciting! OK to me cutting trees is not very exciting.
I went from level 89 to 92 woodcutting in one go recently, the way I could stay focused and continue chopping was to give myself a second reason to chop trees.

I like farming I am currently level 81 the last level I got was primarily from planting trees, although xp for planting trees is not as fast as xp from planting the allotments you can get large increases from a little work.
My main target from chopping trees was to get tree seeds from the birds nests that fall out of the tree, I put on my full lumberjack, dragon axe and rabbit foot necklace, the rabbit foot necklace is supposed to increase the amount of birds nests from trees.
I set up camp by the willows at Draynor, I can chop magic trees and yew trees but you get so many more nests from willows and oaks that I decided to stay there, I suspect you get more nests because you can chop a lot more logs in the time it takes for a yew or magic log.
Basically I would chop the trees and bank logs when full I would watch the ground for birds nests, every time a nest falls out I would pick it up look in the nest, it there was a tree seed I would put it in my bank when my inventory was full, if it was a ring I would drop it for the low level players to pickup and use or sell if they wanted.
I only got 1 birds egg, a red one, no one knows what use they will have but they have no use at the moment, the only time Jagex will give them a use is the update after I drop them.
Birds nest are like most things on Runescape very random sometimes you can get 2 or 3 in an inventory of logs, you may also go several loads of logs and no nests.
When chopping you can chat to your friends to pass the time and a new pastime I started playing was report the autoer, at the willows at Draynor there are 2 dark wizards, these dark wizards are often attacking the autoers that pass, autoers are normally level 3 with no skills except woodcutting, autoers are there to make real life money for the owner of the accounts, this is spoiling the game for good players who don't like to cheat and unless they are stopped will make the game unplayable, every time I saw the wizards attacking someone level 3 with the default character look I would report them for macroing, this is sometimes difficult because many of them have the same name but a different number after them.
There are level 3's out there that are genuine players, do not worry if you report them by accident, Jagex have an automated system that watches reported bots and will ban if found to be an auto's, if they are not an auto they will not be banned.
Jagex can ban these bots but they must be reported so report everyone you see and lets stop them destroying the game.
Another way to keep yourself focused is to give yourself a target, set yourself a target like 1000 logs then when you get that set it for 2k logs and increase the target when you reach it, you can set yourself a target like 10k but progress will be slow and you may give up before reaching it, 10 targets at 1k intervals is easier than one 10k target, you may set a target as your next wc level or a certain xp level, set your target and set your mind on getting it and all levels are achievable.
Stealing seeds for farming

The easiest way by far to get seeds for farming is by stealing them from master farmers, you need to be a level 38 to steal from master farmers and you will get caught regularly at that level, it is however still worth it but you will just need to take extra food.
First of all you need to work out what you are thieving for is it xp or is it seeds or both, the difference being is what you take in your inventory.
You can wear whatever you like, there is a myth going around that wearing armour increases your chance of getting caught, this is not true and it is advised to wear armour if you are a lower combat level player thieving from stalls in Ardougne but stealing from master farmers is hazard free (With the exception of randoms)and the damage taken from being stunned.
When you thieve from a farmer the seeds go into your inventory, when your inventory is full you still risk the chance of getting caught but any seeds you do not already have in your inventory are not taken and you receive no xp for thieving them.
Thieving for seeds and xp, Your inventory should hold at least 1 of each seed that you want, I normally have ranaar, snapdragon, sweetcorn, melon and strawberry. to train for xp as well you should have at least one of each of the common seeds such as cabbage, barley, tomato and potato. the more types of common seeds you have the more chance of xp from your thieving attempt the rest should be food, as you eat your food when you are stunned you will have more room for seeds and more chance of xp.
Thieving for seeds only, just have one of each seed you want in your inventory and the rest food.
Thieving for xp just take no food and thieve till you die then tele back.
There are two places for thieving from master farmers the best now is Ardougne head north out of the market place and keep going towards Seers he is located by the potato field and farming shop area. the second one is at Draynor Village in the market place.
The best technique for thieving in Ardougne is to try and trap him in the field with the potatoes, he can still run around but there are no obstacles so you can just click on him and don't even need to change the camera angle, basically you just keep clicking and watch the xp mount up and the seeds pile up, be ready for new players to open the gate and let the farmer out, don't call them noobs just ask if they can keep the gate shut if they come in, not everyone understands what you are doing.
If you are stunned you take a little damage (2hp I think) just keep clicking and eat if you need to, even when stunned keep clicking so you can get back at him as soon as possible, you can eat potatoes from the field if you want but they taste carp.
As a courtesy to other players if you leave for food wait till the farmer is away from the gate leave and shut the gate as soon as you are out, it makes life easier for the other players teaches people good manners and they may do the same for you next time.
If you are full of seeds and low on health there is a bank a short way south west drop the seeds you don't want in the bank (others may want them) and it also stops newbs from opening the farm gate to get at them.
I little tip, if you are farming and going to the north ardy patch pick a few seeds until your health is low and continue to your patch, heal on the produce you grow, I did that for a long time and my thieving went up nicely.
This is also a way of making money selling high level seeds, ranaar at current prices are 20k to 25k, melons are 1k each. its not a great way nothing in thieving is a great way of making money but it is a way.
I hope you enjoy this post please add a comment and I will keep the guides coming, digg it and I will love you forever.
How to do an efficient farming run
By Steve on Mar 22, 2007 | In Farming | Send feedback »
This is a route I devised when doing some intensive farming it gets lots of xp for different skills on the way.
I start of tele to Ardougne, I steal a gem from the stall and a silver ore (Thieving XP), wander up to the north bank and cut and bank my gem (Crafting xp) and ore (Smelting and crafting xp), I grab my seeds for the whole trip, 3 herbs, 18 veggy seeds and 3 limps (I dont use port phasmatys), I wander to the master farmer and steal seeds (Theiving xp) off of him until about 1/4 health then drop the carp seeds and wander around to the farming patch, I pick the crops (Farming xp) eating the vegetables to bring my health back up, plant all 4 patches (farming xp) I always use super compost and never water any of my plants and they rarely die.
I then tele to camalot (mage xp) wander to catherby killing 2 unicorns on the way (combat xp), get to the bank, bank my herbs and limps grind my horn and make my super anti pots (Herblore xp), I pop over to the trading post ships and buy all the seaweed and soda ash (Crafting xp later) and pinapples for supercompost (Farming xp), go to the allotment and pick crops (farming xp) and replant, bank herbs limps and any veggies i need for tree farmer payment, grab house tele runes wander up to my fruit tree and pick my coconuts (Papaya before I could do coconuts).
Tele to house, pop outside pick 4 white berries from my bush, go back in in building mode so no doors to open pop upstairs use my wall mounted glory to tele to draynor village, bank my berries and coconuts, pick pocket farmer drop all carp seeds proceed to allotment south of fally and pick and plant crops.
I then go and train another skill then repeat this process again.
A few tips for this process, don't pay farmers for looking after your crops unless trees just wastes time, don't water your plants not needed and a waste of time.
Plant watermelons in the plot south of fally so you have supercompost material close at hand, this plot because it is (Or appears to me to be) furthest from the bank.
If you grow potatoes or sweetcorn cook before dropping or selling to the shop, good cooking xp.
Grow sweetcorn at catherby as this closest to a cooking range and easy to get rid of in the shop.
