Motivation for woodcutting

Chopping trees is not very exciting! OK to me cutting trees is not very exciting.
I went from level 89 to 92 woodcutting in one go recently, the way I could stay focused and continue chopping was to give myself a second reason to chop trees.

I like farming I am currently level 81 the last level I got was primarily from planting trees, although xp for planting trees is not as fast as xp from planting the allotments you can get large increases from a little work.
My main target from chopping trees was to get tree seeds from the birds nests that fall out of the tree, I put on my full lumberjack, dragon axe and rabbit foot necklace, the rabbit foot necklace is supposed to increase the amount of birds nests from trees.
I set up camp by the willows at Draynor, I can chop magic trees and yew trees but you get so many more nests from willows and oaks that I decided to stay there, I suspect you get more nests because you can chop a lot more logs in the time it takes for a yew or magic log.
Basically I would chop the trees and bank logs when full I would watch the ground for birds nests, every time a nest falls out I would pick it up look in the nest, it there was a tree seed I would put it in my bank when my inventory was full, if it was a ring I would drop it for the low level players to pickup and use or sell if they wanted.
I only got 1 birds egg, a red one, no one knows what use they will have but they have no use at the moment, the only time Jagex will give them a use is the update after I drop them.
Birds nest are like most things on Runescape very random sometimes you can get 2 or 3 in an inventory of logs, you may also go several loads of logs and no nests.
When chopping you can chat to your friends to pass the time and a new pastime I started playing was report the autoer, at the willows at Draynor there are 2 dark wizards, these dark wizards are often attacking the autoers that pass, autoers are normally level 3 with no skills except woodcutting, autoers are there to make real life money for the owner of the accounts, this is spoiling the game for good players who don't like to cheat and unless they are stopped will make the game unplayable, every time I saw the wizards attacking someone level 3 with the default character look I would report them for macroing, this is sometimes difficult because many of them have the same name but a different number after them.
There are level 3's out there that are genuine players, do not worry if you report them by accident, Jagex have an automated system that watches reported bots and will ban if found to be an auto's, if they are not an auto they will not be banned.
Jagex can ban these bots but they must be reported so report everyone you see and lets stop them destroying the game.
Another way to keep yourself focused is to give yourself a target, set yourself a target like 1000 logs then when you get that set it for 2k logs and increase the target when you reach it, you can set yourself a target like 10k but progress will be slow and you may give up before reaching it, 10 targets at 1k intervals is easier than one 10k target, you may set a target as your next wc level or a certain xp level, set your target and set your mind on getting it and all levels are achievable.
Woodcutting

For wood cutting you chop trees, the end.
Ok its a bit more technical than that what and where to cut what to wear what to use etc.
Woodcutting is a primary skill and you can always make money doing primary skills, so if you play for money this is a good route to start.
First of all use the best axe you can use, if you can only just afford the next level axe and you would be skint buy it it will pay for itself very quickly.
First of all to get started cut normal trees and either fletch (members) or burn (members or NON members) a good place to cut these is by the hut entrance to Edgeville dungeon by the hill giants. to get there head west out of Varrock before you come to Barbarian Village head north and look for the hut, there are loads of dead trees there and they alway re spawn by the time you have finished the last.
Cut oaks when you can, these are convenient to a bank just outside the city walls by Varrock west bank, there are 3 there but the 2 near the path re spawn quick enough to keep you going, bank, burn or fletch depending on you mood.
When you are able to cut Willows go to Draynor Village, if you are woodcutting for xp this is where you will stay until 99 there are plenty trees and it is near a bank to empty your inventory quickly, if you want cash stay here until you can cut yews.
When you can cut yews and you want cash go to Catherby head west from the bank and there are a number of trees there (If non members there are yew trees just south of Edgeville bank), chop bank and repeat, it will be slow to start with xp will increase steadily, not as quick as willows but you will build a stock of yew logs that can be sold at Seers village, at current price these sell for 300gp each.
When you can cut Magic trees there are a few trees by the legends guild, if you can use the bank at Llyeta there are 3 trees there and you can bank nearby by using the tele crystals, magic tree logs are slow but can sell for 1k each at current prices.
If you are a member you will also get birds nests falling from the trees in these nest you can get tree seeds, these can sell from 500gp for oaks to 150k for magic tree seeds and not sure the price of spirit tree seeds, you also get rings from gold to ruby, these may have some use to you but I just drop them.
If you want to maximise XP you can do the temple trekking mini game and get full lumber, it took me 3 weeks constant playing to get the jacket, if I just wood cut instead of getting this I would be nearing 99 woodcutting by now, its not worth getting for the extra wc xp but there are other rewards when temple trekking.
Any serious woodcutter should get the dragon axe as soon as possible but at about 3m current price it is well out of the reach of most new players.
