Wilderness Changes, Bounty Hunter and Clan Wars!
By Steve on Dec 10, 2007 | In Combat, The News as it happens, Wilderness | 8 feedbacks »
Its the end of the world as we know it!!
Ok the end of Pking has arrived, sorry you pkers its the end of unorganised pking, but hey don't worry you can still team attack a defencless players you just can't attack skillers! C'est la vie.
I have mixed views on this update, I did like the danger of the wildy, I did like killing off noobs who had a go at me, but the up date has opened a whole new world to a new group of players.
I will start off with the Bounty Hunter, this is great for the normal cowardly pker, you are assigned one player to attack you need to track them down or tele next to them, you then need to kill them, this sounds great and lots of fun? nope the chicken mentality of the pker makes it so they can group and all attack the player attacking, this is the same as clan wars were before this update but instead of a clan all attacking another clan you get a clan attacking 1 player, this area should not be multi if your not in a team you stand no chance.
I went in with Keris and a few lobbies I found my bounty and attacked, I was set upon by about 10 players all over 95 combat, even at 125 I stood no chance, this should suit the chicken pker but for the more brave adventurer without backup its not going to happen.
I went to the Clan wars area, there was a Jagex Mod trying to answer questions but most of the time he was getting abuse and people threatening to quit, he had many reasonable situation where he could have muted players on the spot, I believe they had anticipated this and will only mute persistent bad language.
I never got into the Clan Wars but will check it out later.
The rest of the wildy is fun fun fun, this has opened a whole new area for less aggressive type players, you can now mine rune ore, complete mage arena and attack the chaos elemental with controlled danger, I had 2 attempts at the Chaos Elemental and killed him on both occasions, I got 1k coins and 500 iron arrows, I can see the price of rune ore dropping and there being a flood of dragon 2 handers available, I can also see the price of treasure trail items dropping too.
There is still a great danger, the new monsters appear from no where and they are nasty, they hit hard I was hit 27 from a level 126, he heals himself and mages and ranges, it took me 2 attempts to kill 1 but I did succeed and got 800gp, what is nice is I can wear whatever I want in the wildy now so I can take on the KBD with my best gear on.
This is a massive new area for many players to explore, there are far more normal players than pkers so this is going to benefit the majority of players.
I do feel sorry for the pkers but you now have chicken central your very own chicken coop so you can pile any players who takes your fancy.
On the more serious note Jagex are taking a lot of abuse over this update, many players are threatening to quit, can't say I've ever seen an update where people haven't threatened to quit, but you do need to look at it from their point of view, Real world trading is a very real problem there is no avoiding that, people are blaming Jagex for these measures, think about it, is it Jagex who have forced these measures or is it the people buying the gold.
You only need to think of the next few days or weeks even, Jagex need to think of the future.
Surviving the wildernes the sequel
By Steve on Nov 9, 2007 | In Wilderness | 2 feedbacks »
I started to write a surviving the wilderness guide for completing treasure trail clues, I promised to do a write up of a third method that involved having a bit of fun and fighting back when you are attacked.
Please note this is not a pker guide, I can not PK but I have seen off a few that have had a try at me.
After a few requests here it is.
The wilderness can be a scary place if you let it, I am sure you feel the adrenalin rush as you wander the wildy even with nothing of value and you see a little white dot running towards you on the mini map.
The easiest way to respond is to log off or if your not far into the wildy to just run and hope you escape in time.
If you choose to fight you stand a chance of dying or you stand a chance of surviving and collecting some other items, the chance of dieing is great no matter how high a level you are, im level 125 I have 99 defence, strength, attack, hp, range and 97 magic I do not consider myself invulnerable and safe from death in the wildy.
Pkers are cowards and often pack animals, they pick on defencless skillers and if their pking skills are a bit low they will take a clan to help them out if they get scared.
So bare in mind this method is for fun and can quite easily cause you to lose your clue and many of your belongings.
What to take
The best plan of attack is to try and minimise your losses, only take what you are prepared to lose, I take armour that has a good mage defence, I take a dds to dish out some quick justice for have a go hero's, I also take a crystal bow in case im held by a holding spell.
A typical inventory would be:-
Wear
Black dragon hide armour (Wear the best you can that you can also afford to lose)
Addy boots
Anti Firebreath shield
Power ammy
Ring of recoil for deep wildy ring of life low wildy (less than 20).
Archer helm
DDS (DDP++)
Inventory
Crystal bow (you can take X bow or mage short bare in mind you will lose your arrow if killed).
Clue (Spade, sextant and other parts that will be required for your clue)
Tele tab (Home teletab best if you are poisoned)
teleblok runes if im feeling mean
Full inventory of sharks (or your best food).
Please note I have a very large budget, I can take anything I like and not worry about losing, I hate to give pkers free stuff so I only take stuff that to me is expendable but gives a certain amount of bonus and protection.
Wearing a good mage defence is important to protect from binding and teleblok spells, Ice Barrage is a good holding spell but is not a very good attack spell, if you come across a Barrager in the wildy he is likely to have friends to protect him or he will have other means of attack, dragon hide will minimise damage but will not guarantee protection from hold, it will however minimise teleblok, teleblok is often used by melee attackers so the negative mage attack bonus caused by their armour and your positive mage defence will cause it to splash like a cat in the bath.
Wearing dragon hide will make you vulnerable to whip attack so try to avoid close contact with whip bearers.
Getting ready
You have your clue, you know where your going and you have everything you need, take a sip of all pots you have, super att, def, str, super anti, range etc, bank your pots and fill the spaces with food, click the spec on your dds ready to unload on your first encounter.
Wander off into the wildy in the direction you want to go and hope you don't get seen.
If you do get seen some people will leave you if they know you are doing a clue, don't count on it some will wait until you dig it up and killed the Zammy mage then attack you.
Minimise your losses do not attack them, they may be peaceful and not attack, if they do attack they have an advantage that they have speced you first, they also have the disadvantage that they will be skulled and will lose all their items if killed, you however hopefully have auto attack on and speced them next make sure you finish the spec bar, try and put attack and strength prayer before using the rest of your spec bar, you may wish to save a spec for when they are low but a quick kill is preferred if you think a spec will do it.
You may need to finish the fight with your DDS or you can range if you think you can hit more consistently with range, DDS is a poor weapon when the spec is gone but ranging may hit lower but more often.
Eat and try to keep your health as high as possible without wasting hp, do not eat food that heals more than the hp required to restore you to full health, you may be called a safer to shame you into not eating, this basically means I can not kill you please stop eating so I can take your items.
You can take a whip if your quite wealthy this will finish off most have a go noob pkers quite quickly and should be protected by your 3 items kept on death.
Never pick up noted items left on the floor if you take a whip unless you have teled the other player to their respawn point, if you do pick them up be prepared to drop it if you become under attack again, some items protect over whip and you will keep the items and not the whip.
You will then need to leave the wildy, there are some easy routes they all have danger involved, if you had a pk encounter even if you sent them to Lumby you will have used food so another encounter could prove fatal, get out as quickly as possible.
Easy Routes,
The tele lever at the mage arena bank or the keep that you get there through, when you are in the mage arena bank you are safe and you can tele anywhere, using the lever in the Keep takes you back to safety in Ardougne, outside the mage arena bank is a dangerous place and pkers often congregate there, you have 2 webs to cut and this can take a while.
The King Black Dragon is your friend, if you are near the KBD lair you can use this to tele out of the wildy, climb down the ladder by the greater demons this will take you to an area with poison spiders, they will often poison you, pull the lever and you are at the mercy of the KBD, hit your teletab and you are safe.
Obelisks are situated around the wilderness you can enter these and activate and you will be teled to another obelisk at least one of these is below level 20 wildy so you can tele to safety, this is quick but some pkers watch obelisks and teleblok as soon as someone appears you should have protection from TB if wearing dragon hide but be prepared.
If at any stage you are tele blocked you can log out and back in again this will remove the TB effect, don't forget you are vulnerable for a few seconds as soon as you log back in and a lot can happen in a few seconds in the wildy.
Using this method if you die you will lose your clue! do not worry clues are very common and it wont take long to get another.
In the wildy keep cool if you have little value items, go and enjoy your stroll in the wildy, have a fight if you die big deal, The times ive been there and seen white dots running up to me I normally stop and wait for them to catch up, normally they see me then run the other way, sometimes they just come and have a chat.
have fun and may your death be a glorious one.
A tale of 2 chickens

My opinion of pkers is very low as you may be aware, I just thought I would highlight again how low you can go with this next little story.
I had a level 3 clue and it was in the wildy about as far from safety as possible,I had better things to do so I dropped it and carried on with my slayer tasks, I got another clue and it didn't start in the wildy so I did the first 2 clues and the third was the same place as the last clue, I really couldn't be bothered to do it but I thought I would get my dds and walk the whole length of the wildy through milti combat areas and do it for a bit of excitement.
I got my black dragon hide, dds, anti firebreath shield, super potted and started to walk, there were loads of white dots and I just walked through them no one even thinking of attacking me, as I got to the deep wildy a level 112 or there abouts saw me and started to follow me he had a magic achievement cape on so was 99 mage, im 96 so I wasn't intimidated, I can do all that he could do.
He started to attack, I wasn't bothered if I died so didn't run like I normally do when doing clues I turned around and hit back, I speced him with my dds and hit very hard, I put Piety on and speced again and again and hit him down to what must have been about 10hp, he was eating like a lunatic and I kept getting him down with my dds, if I had my whip he would be a bundle of bones and a few other items, whip and dds springs to mind.
Then out of the blue another player runs over and starts attacking me with his whip and I die, had he attacked me on his own and won or died I would respect him as a player having to have another player to hold his hand when he got hurt is a bit lame.
I understand that the wildy is the wildy there are no rules and anyone can get killed there, Im just highlighting that pkers are the cowardly side of Runescape.
I am a skiller I went to the wildy on my home world (69 a pker world) I walked the whole length of the wildy mostly multi combat all on my own, into the deepest wildy near the clan war area and was attacked by a player who had his big brother there to kiss his knees if he got hurt, my opinion is that the wildy is one massive chicken coop.
Level 126 chicken run

After sitting in a 3 hour traffic jam returning from our easter break I started up Runescape and I did a level 1 clue that I had got before I went away.
I did the clue and had a hard leather body, blue gnome boots and an unblessed silver sickle, needle and sickle mould left over from the things needed for the quest, I was a bit bored I wanted an easy life so I went to the wildy agility course more than happy for someone to come and kill me.
I went the dangerous route directly past the mage arena bank and walked through a group of 15 pkers no of them attacked me which was a bit disappointing, I had nothing to lose and I started to go around the course, surprisingly as I was going around with another player one of my friends turned up and started to train.
So there was me a level 122, my friend a level 105 and the other player a level 123, we were all going around merrily and after a while a level 124 joined us again a good player just there for agility xp, I was staying there until I died and free tele back to Fally as my hp went low the other players offered me food which is pretty cool for players in the wildy.
A level 80 turned up and left in a hurry after all he didn't know us and would not know we would not attack him, as I went around a level 126 logged in and then logged out again, I warned my friend but carried on around as I was there to die anyway, after about 10 minutes the level 126 appeared again with some friends and started killing the other player, I would have helped the other player but I was on 10hp and no food and stood no chance so I carried on, as I caught up to the pkers I just carried on past and was killed with 2 range shots, im not sure what happened to the other players but my friend died to the pkers a bit later.
I understand that the widly is a dangerous place and death is quite likely but I was surprised that a level 126 felt so vulnerable that he needed to kill unarmed players who were only carrying food and a DDS at most, they got a sickle mold and a needle off of me, if they had asked I would have given it to them after all I can get them from my house free of charge.
I understand the 115 needing to attack unarmed players because he would normally not stand a chance of killing players over level 75.
I wanted to go back and kill the 126 and see if indeed pkers do drop feathers but there was a clan there and I could only take out 2 max.
Who want to play a deadly game in Runescape for 100K
By Steve on Mar 1, 2007 | In Fun, Pass Times, Wilderness | Send feedback »
I am a level 119 combat Runescape Player 99 attack, 95 strength, 91 Defence, 94 magic and 90 range, I do not have an unlimited supply of money, about 42 million at the moment I do however have everything I need at the moment.
The wilderness is boring as there is seldom anything to win out there the odd rune scimmy etc.
I would like to make it a bit more interesting by giving you a game to play that could get you a nice profit or could get you killed and lose everything you have.
I need to make it clear that there is a very real chance that you could lose everything you take as it is in the wilderness, only take what you are prepared to gamble and quite likely to lose, there can be only one winner and its not going to be me.
I will start with 100K, the reason it is 100K is to make it not to much of a good win that high level players will come along and spoil a bit of deadly fun, but the low to mid level players will have a nice little treat.
The aim of the game, I will make or buy some bronze armour and have a full set, I will take a weapon and a shield haven't decided what yet and an inventory full of food and 100k cash and I will wander off into the wilderness, It will be free 2 play so everyone can have a go but I will go as deep as you can on f2p, hopefully I will have some followers and I will kill you.
That sounds fun doesn't it.
Ok it doesn't sound fun the fun bit is I will stay there I will not run and I will fight anyone who comes along, bearing in mind I am 119 combat and will not be easy to kill by most players, I will kill you and collect anything worth having, that is why I say do not take anything that you cant afford to lose, I will stay there until my food runs out and I die, hopefully there will be full bronze some other winnings and 100k cash.
The dangers are real even though it is my game there will be other pkers killing other players as well so you may die but not from me, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Don't forget if someone kills me they may be badly injured so feel happy to pj him on his return home.
The winner is the person who gets home with the loot.
There are no rules, well the only rule I would like observed is to let me get to deep wildy before you attack.
I would like to keep it for low level players so all players under 90 combat are welcome, personally if your over 90 and you badly want 100k you need to get out more.
To participate please leave a comment on our blog details of where and when will follow when I have enough interested people.
Please use the search box on the right hand side to search for other RS related sites and let them know about this little game, If its popular I will do it weekly.
Keep checking this blog as dates will be published shortly.
If your a high level and want to bring 100k of your own cash for a bit of fun please leave a comment and your rs user ID.
I would also like to make this point to the lower level players and to remind established players never give your password to anyone not even Jagex staff they DON'T need to know it and you will lose your account, Jagex staff will never ask you your password.
