Elemental Workshop 3 / III puzzle pointers

Runescapes Elemental Workshop three has been released and is creating uproar on the forums, its a low level quest but the puzzle is far from low level, havent seen any threats to quit but im sure they will be coming or are there and I havent seen them yet.

Screams on the forums of Jagex's worst quest ever, ew3 puzzle is impossible, Jagex fail, and many more, most rants removed from the forum now but every post was an elemental workshop post, most just asking for help, some saying they are waiting for a quide.

Reading the forums I can imagine Jagex sitting back all contented that they have achieved what they wanted and created a very difficult puzzle, people have complained that the quests are too easy, too hard, too much combat, too high a skill requirment as you are aware whatever Jagex do there will always be complaints, some reasonable some unreasonable, we all like a challenge, whats the point of a game which is as easy as a walk in the park, the problem is getting the difficulty just right.

This puzzle will no doubt be impossible for some of the younger players this is where I believe the rule of not letting anyone play on your account should be a bit relaxed, not that anyone will know but its nice to know if you tell a friend that someone did something for you you wont get banned, I dont believe you would get a ban now with their more reasonable and relaxed attitude to the rules.

The puzzle in Mournings end part 2 was a total mystery to me, I couldnt get it so I used a guide, gthe only quest i have used a guide and only for the puzzle part, the puzzle for Elemental Workshop 3 was almost as hard but the fact that it was in a safe area made it a lot more approachable.

I am not going to give a list of how to do the puzzle but a few pointers to help you.

When you enter the body room and go down the stairs you have an option in the top left corner to change the view so you can see the whole puzzle, on the right hand side of the puzzle there are a couple of cogs and a counter, the first part of the puzzle is to get those cogs moving, there is a moving cog at the bottom centre of the puzzle and this drives the other cogs by sliding the other cogs to connect them together, this is done by pulling a lever, by carefully selecting a lever you will move all the cogs from that lever towards where the missing tile is.

The important thing is to observe the levels on the counter cogs, the cogs you can move to start with are low level so you can only drive the low level cog on the counter, this needs to be done in 50 moves so try and organise it that you move as many lose cogs as you can on each move towards the desired area, to start with you will be 2 or 3 moves away from completing before you run out of moves and are required to restart the level, it will be very frustrating to start with but you will get used to moving lots at the same time and you will complete it, when you complete the low level cog on the counter the floor drops and you can bring into play a double cog on the top right hand side, this double cog needs to coincide with the cog on the right hand counter, when this happens the counter will start to count down and you will have 50 moves to complete the other counter on the left hand side.

I am not sure if you can just do the left hand counter from a restart or if you need to do the right hand counter first, if you do the right hand counter after a restart you get the 50 from the main counter and 50 from that counter, once you have completed both counters you need to do the cog at the top centre, you need the 3 height cog that was realeased whe you did the left hand counter to set this one going, at one stage the counter jams at 62 and  you have infinite moves to complete the tasks so the pressure is reduced silghtly.

After starting the top counter this lowers the centre column,  you need to move all the cogs that can be moved around the column the hight of the cog must coincide with the level the cog is on the column, you will need to come out of full view to determine this, when all cogs are correctly positioned the top of the column will start to turn, this is charging the machine, after this has happened connect the cogs to the top centre cog to raise the centre column.

That is mission complete, put a primed bar in the door slot on the machine above, enter, pull the lever press the button and you have a pretty blue bar, lower the centre column again to charge and raise again to make a second bar.

To make the body body you need the book from the original elemental workshop in your inventory and use the bar on the anvil with a hammer in your inventory.

Jobs a goodun.

It took me hours to work it out without any hints, I wish you luck.

I will recheck this pointer again later in case I have missed stuff, its a bit complicated and my brain has seized.

Give Jagex and Runescape a break

A very busy work life has severely limited my Runescape game play time, it has also made me look at Runescape in a totally different light, a chance to think about what is happening to Runescape as an occasional player, all the complaints, the great and not so great updates and people complaining about almost everything new.

Jagex have announced that this will be the year for updating what they already have, as normal there are lots of complaints about it, having looked at the updates so far there is a lot of new content, the improvements to what they already have have all added new content and features to the game.
Their main problem was that over the previous year, removing pking in the wilderness and the various games and content added to compensate we have had a substantial and constant barrage of huge updates for all levels of players free and p2p, we have become so used to a constant stream of new updates that we expect it all the time now, looking back the current updates are on a par with the updates pre pk removal, they have not stopped upgrading RS but returned to a normal level now the RWT problems are under control.

Looking at the Games as a not so regular player has made me think, OK the update wasn't great this week but who cares it is still a great game with tones for me to do, there is enough to do without rushing through an update to keep the masses happy, I don't mind waiting a week or two for an update provided it is an update to add playability or fun not just a rushed ill prepared addition to stop the moaners happy.

Summer's End marks the end of Summer on Runescape

This update is in draft form, more pictures and spelling grammatical error checks to follow shortly.

The Summers end quest was released a couple of days ago and yesterday I decided to do it, I packed up my wood cutting clobber, put on some dragon hide and headed to the Farm North of the Graveyard of shadows, I spoke to Summer Bonde the little ghost girl who I helped in Spirit of Summer quest.

She said I should speak to the Elders in another dimension, I did this by operating Jennica's ring when stood on the portal and I appeared in a white area with Summer and 3 other ghostys, we had a chat and they told me that the beast was breaking its way from the alternate dimension and coming into ours to devour our souls (mmmmmm souls), they said I need to lure it into a cave in the north of the area in the spirit world.

The Tunnel is blocked so you need to go to the normal world and collapse the tunnel there, this can be done by clicking collapse on the tunnel with a pick axe in your inventory, collapsing the tunnel there opens up the tunnel in the spirit world.

The Elders give you a clue that the beast is used to my tricks and that the answer on how to lure him is in the rings used to trap him last time, the rings are coloured crimson, gold and green therefore the beast is not familiar with familiars made with blue charms, use a familiar made with a blue charm and lure the beast into the tunnel by walking into the tunnel with your familiar out, your familiar gets eaten but the beast will follow.

When you are inside you can speak to a ghost who tells you how you can help him kill the beast, this part of the quest is very hard you are very likely to die multiple times, wearing armour is no good just take some energy pots, axe and a tinderbox and a home teletab is also very handy, you need to chop the tree roots to get cursed willow logs, put 5 on a pyre area, these are small disks scattered around the dungeon area and light them, you need to do this 3 times.
The first time I did it was easy I chopped the logs set up the pyre and lit it, the second time I ran around taking lots of damage from the beasts mage attack, he mages with clusters of hits, one cluster hitting full on can kill even the toughest of players, yes I was a victim and died, several times, eventually I lit the second fire, I teled for food and went back, ran back in and died in seconds.
He gets more angry after each fire, eventually for the last fire, I put on protect mage prayer ran in chopped 6 logs one from each root in succession, do not stay on one root for too long or the mage attack will cluster you and kill you, with the logs in my inventory I teled home, I still had good health and a lot of food but I wanted to be ready to build the pyre and light it, I topped up prayer and ate to 99hp than teled to clan wars ran inside, I got myself composed ready for the last fire, protect mage on (This reduces the damage considerably but a full cluster can still kill) I ran in to the first pyre area and put a log on, the beast fired at me, I ran to the other side of the pyre and put another log on, the distance moved and the mage protect prayer doing a good job of me receiving little damage, I kept putting a log on until all logs were placed and lit it, immediately a cut scene saves me any more damage and the monster goes into the tunnel further.

Restock on food and prayer and return to the tunnel with a spade, you get a cut scene telling you that you need to bury the dark core of the beast that has been freed by the elders cracking open the beasts chest, you need to go near a hole, the dark core will come out and try to get you, digging near a hole will draw him in and trap it, this is easiest done by getting close to the beast, when you get close the dark core will emerge, make sure you are near a hole and dig, this is quite easy and he will go inside and be dealt with by the friendly ghost, you are being attacked by the beast all this time so mage protect is a help but this part is not difficult if you are close enough to the beast.
You need to bury the dark core 3 times, you can leave to restock between captures, after the third time the beast retreats further into the cavern.

This final part of the cavern is the tricky part, I never died here in fact I took little damage but it is a little complicated so may take some time, the 3 elders return to their graves and are represented as different colours, the beast builds up a colour charge and spits it at the graves, if you see the beast build up a red charge you need to bless the grave with the red spirit in it, the same with green and blue, if you do this successfully for each colour it reflects back to the beast and damages it, on the third colour it kills the beast and he flies up in the air.

After the beast is defeated the elders come and thank you for your help and offer you their rewards for helping them. at this stage you can have the escort you outside.

Quest done, you get lots of XP and a coooool spirit shield that can be made better by using an elixir and a sigil (sp) to make it beter.

I loved this quest, it involved strategy and not just get this get that talk to him and come back again, it was difficult even for a high level player.

Please note, I have friends who tell me the cursed logs turn into normal willow logs when you exit the cave, It did not for me so bare this in mind if you try my tactics, I was also told that Mage prayer does not help, again it reduced my hits considerably so it helped me.
Could you let me know if you keep cursed logs from this quest when exiting or if they resort to normal and if prayer reduces your damage.

All Fired Up

The quest All fired Up was released today, it is a very easy quest that takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Merchanting tip buy some normal logs and sell them in a day or 2 when the price increases, or chop now and watch the price increase then sell, you need to do it quick because the price will drop again soon.

You need 45 logs (normal is fine) and a tinderbox, you need 43 firemaking and completed priest in Peril quest.

Talk to King Roald in Varrock Castle about a new alert system he will tell you to speak to Blaze Sharpeye just south of the Temple on the Salve, talk to him about the Beacons and offer to help by lighting the beacon, you need 20 logs click on the beacon then click yes to put the logs on, click again to light it.

Speak to Blaze Sharpeye again and he would like you to light the next beacon, this is next to the rag and bone man and tended by Squire Fyre you again need 20 logs and a tinderbox click the beacon and click yes to use the logs then click again to light, speak to Squire Fyre then return to Blaze Sharpeye.

Blaze Sharpeye asks you to top up the fire to keep it burning brightly, you need 5 logs for this, after you have topped up the fire again Blaze Sharpeye is happy and tells you to speak to King Roald and tell him what has happened, King Roald will give you your reward.

This gives you access to the new mini game and I will add a guide when I have had chance to test it out.

A few tips
If you have a good agility level you can use the shortcut by the temple to access Canafis Bank if not tele to Varrock and run back and forth with the logs, using a spirit terrorbird can carry a few extra logs and using the scrolls restore run energy.

Smoking Kills, the Runescape quest

Link: http://www.roycastle.org/kats/intro.htm

Hmmm the global warming quest last time and smoking quest this time, are Runescape trying to give us subliminal messages.

Anyway the quest was quite fun, a walk in the park for me but for lower level players could be quite a struggle, you need protection from melee mage and range monsters I was adequately protected from all with my torags and for the last battle I needed protection from range prayer as well.

The quest was short and did not involve any unnecessary walking just how I like them.

This is the result, Shut your eyes if you dont want to see it.

have a look at this picture and see if you can spot the not so obvious mistake.

I will give you a clue, do we have a new spell coming?

Its a fact that smoking kills many people, in fact one out of 2 smokers will die prematurely because of their habit, if both of your parents smoke have a guess which one will die early then wait and see if you guessed correctly, for more information and scary facts click here.
